Do cone filters really free up more power? How much and at what cost? Worth it? (NT)

Hey Joe!,

We have seen from 5 to 14 hp gain with Cone Filters and Tubes. Lets say you gain a modest 8 hp for $ 400.00(the price of our Max Flow Intake Kit), this would equal $ 50.00 per horsepower. You can use that number for comparison with other mods.

Another item to consider is the appeal that large, chrome intake tubes with color matched tube and filter ends will add to your engine compartment.

Keep in mind that with Cone filters especially the ones like ours that sit up above the radiator, they may be succeptable to water ONLY from HARD DRIVING RAIN. The filters are oil coated and resist water very well but I like to point out that fact.

My 'opinion'


Cone filters LOOK really cool! Looks count. On a static dyno test, they may 'appear' to provide a few HP extra. But do they, in real driving?

a) The droop-snout cones that hang behind the radiator area are obviuously ingesting warmer air than a higher-up intake. (or a ground-area intake.) Warmer air makes LESS HP.

b) When you make air change direction, you slow it down. Those same droop-snout cones make the air change 70 degrees. That would make less VELOCITY than straight-line, which again makes less HP.

c) The entire NACA duct 'theory' is rendered moot/cosmetic if you think cones are better. I believe that, at speed, the NACA intake, esp with a modifid rear-half straight-thru airbox, will make more power. Static on a dyno, cold motor, or non-hot motor, the cones win. Win on the dyno....lose on the strip?
I dunno...not a good straightliner.

d) Weather concerns.

Your opinion may darn well vary!
