this is recommended for higher HP Vipers. I believe it is required if your car is capable of 11 sec or better quarter mile.

That one above looks like the BMR Fabrication piece. Having snapped a drive shaft, I can tell you that having a loop is cheap insurance. The other think I can tell you is that having that loop doesn't guarantee that you won't splatter the underside of the car. I didn't have a splatter happen but if you look at the area protected by the loop, a snap at the rear weld (like what happened on my car) could lead to a big mess. i was quite fortunate. a dual loop is a more solid solution but i don't think any vendors make them.

my .02...

The BMR Fabrication belly pan and drive shaft loops are very nice. I installed them when at Heffners for the TT upgrade. Great parts:)

Probably not required for stock HP cars but a nice safety add if you are going for big HP.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm still NA and not near any big HP numbers, yet but I will seriously consider this at some point the down road if I go TT or SC this winter.

I put half shaft & drive shaft loops on my near stock '01 just because. I do not race. I just wanted them.

BMR sold me the drive shaft loop without the blingy belly pan for $175. Did not need a large clean spot under the car for $75 more.

I tightened up the loop on my BMR with a little welding. It is no longer just a large upside down "U", I closed off the bottom so the shaft could not flop around as much if it breaks. I don't know how much better it is, but I hope I don't have to find out.

Making the loop as close to the shaft as possible(tight), will help keep it contained.

the only issue w/ the BMR piece is that the loop is soooo far to the front that if the shaft drops, it can still catch things like the frame. if someone has a pic of how they resolved this, i'd love to see one as i'm trying to work it out with mine right now just to be safe.

Here's what I did.........

It will protect the fuel system from going BOOM, but, if it broke at the rear of the shaft it would still flop around quite a bit.

Someone on the board made one that had a tube instead of the loop. I think that would be the best solution. It had a slightly larger ID than the drive shaft and was 4-5 inches long.:drive:

Protecting the tunnel from a thrashing, broken shaft, especially with aux fuel lines is sure smart. We've seen some catastrophic fires from that cause.

There are some SFI-approved generic CAMARO-FIREBIRD accessory half-shaft-safety loops at $36 ea, use two. Even With MY dinosaur-like skills I found em!
