Exhaust confusion...help!!

Hello everyone, and thanks in advance for your responses:

My goals for my first major modification to my '00 GTS is the exhaust. I am weighing the options, and have narrowed it down to two options. Ignoring legality, smog checks, bla bla bla:

1.) Which option would be louder and throatier
2.) Which option would produce the most horsepower

The two options are:

1.) Belanger headers, Random Tech substrate high flot cats, Belanger cat back
2.) Belanger headers, straight pipes (and I assume cat sims)

Option 1 (loud) is best for California. Option 2 would be VERY loud. HP difference would not be something you would notice. Nice choice of options by the way.

Make sure to have an x-pipe installed in the rear to get rid of that raspy/tinny exhaust note (unless you like it like that). A friends ACR is running Belanger headers, no cats, straight pipes and an x-pipe in the rear, sounds awsome and extremely loud. He had an h-pipe in the rear but it didn't do anything really, it still had that annoying 5 cylinder sound, the x-pipe took care of that.

If you do a search on here you can find plenty of info on them and one particular thread I started on the x-pipe.

My pat "exhaust thread" reply:

try to get to a VCA event, local Club get together, Viper Days event, or just a bunch of Vipers @ ******* and you will be able to hear just about every combo available. That way you can here it for yourself.
