I was looking at options for better gearing on my 2008 with the 3.07 ratio. I was fortunate to source a Gen5 3.55 diff and axles. I had to reuse the front diff bushings/ diff mounting bolts and the hardware from the Gen5 axles but everything bolted up perfectly. I found the Gen5 diff much easier to install than the Gen4 (more components to work around on the rear suspension assembly). Driveshaft bolted up the same on the Gen5 vs. Gen4.
Logically the Gen3/4/5 diff & axle assembly's are forward/backward compatible as long as the diff & axles match.
I forgot to note the torque specs but i believe I went with:
CV axle nut & Diff mounting bolts tq ~90ftlbs
CV bolts tq ~40ftlbs + Red locktite
Driveshaft strap bolts 28ftlbs + Red locktite
