traction aside, what would cause one car to run a 10.41@110 and another to run 10.5@131?

does it have to do with weight or gearing? it doesnt really makes sense to me how some cars or trucks have unusually low trap speeds for pretty good times..

how is this possible?

edit: i meant for this to be in the racing/timeslips forum.. can a mod please move this?

thanks,

I don't think there are any cars out there running 10.4@110... the MPH indicates the power (what it can accelerate to in a given distance - function of power). The ET is alot to do with traction, mostly because the car spends a lot of time at the start of the line compared with the end - so quickening this time gives good gains at the end of the track.

If traction is equal (i.e. the launch is the same) there really isn't any way for two cars to run identical ET's with vastly different MPH's. If that 10.4@110 run is real, the driver must have let off or braked towards the end - which means he must have been well ahead of the other car to be able to slow to 110 and still get a similar ET.

the 10.4@110 was a big giant turbodiesel ram so it probably didnt lose any traction at all.. i have the video if you want to take a look.. i was thinking something like what you mentioned but wasnt exactly sure..

Eddie,

You sure it's a 1/4 and not 1/8th? If the truck launched at about warp 7 and got traction, it's possible - but he must have been MOVING off the line to do it.

Sometimes (more often than you would think) the scoreboards are off too, so maybe it was 10.4@130 and it read it wrong? Either way 10.4 is MOVIN'!

The only way that is possible to run 10.40 @ 110 is at the et or before the et mark he let off the gas. It takes at lest 128+mph to hit a 10.40, to me he lifted early.

I strongly suspect a lift to avoid breaking into the 9's and getting banned from the track. It's going to be a problem with my DLM car as well, since running >135 MPH traps will get you banned from any NHRA track unless you have a roll cage and parachute

Just to chime in on this, two years ago i had a 70 challenger with a 496 stroker, 456.1 gear with nos. I ran 10.20@109 now at the 1/8 mile i was doing 106 but ran out of gear shortly there after which is probably what happened to the truck.
