How often should the fuel filter be changed assuming that there has not been a problem with dirty fuel? :usa:

Not that expensive and not that hard (even though it is in a tight area) I change mine every 12-16 months.

Going through the parts catalogs, I see that the '00s and the '01s DO NOT have in line fuel filters, but up to '99 and the '02s do have in line filters. Is this a correct observation?

Unless you're filling up at a station with a problem, those filters are fine for 50k+. It's gallons through not time that is the limiting factor. Beyond that, unless you've having a full throttle miss, the engine is getting enough fuel.
