Gen III Weisco pistons..............

Hey Guys/Gals,
I have a set of .020 over Wiesco forged pistons, rings on a .927 pin. The piston height is a bit too high for the Gen II block I am building. If somebody is looking for forge pistons to build up their Gen III, PM me. If you have a set of Gen II forged pistons, maybe we can do a trade

Stock pins are not .990, they are .945 on Gen-3, and .984 on Gen-2. Migt want to check them... they are probably .945.

If these pistons are really .990, they will require aftermarket .990 rods or a set of bushed Full Floating .984's honed for a .990 pin as we do with Gen-2's, since you cant take that much material out of an OE Gen-3 rod.

PS- 99RT, I have a set of Gen-2 pistons, fully loaded, that I just put up on Ebay. I cant take trades as I run my own design on all the engines here, but if you need a set of loaded G2's in a pinch, I am sitting on a set in 4.030. They were marked down 500 bucks, and are CP pistons, coated, with all available options & rings. They run .990 pins, which is easy to accommodate with all of the Gen-2 rods.

I used an older Micrometer to check them. I need to get a digital. I will take it to the machine shop to get an accurate number on them.

.... how did you end up with a G3 bore and comp height on a Gen-2 pin size? That is going to require custom rods in order to work, since G2 rods are too short for a Gen-3. Hopefully they are set up for Full Floating w/locks, as all of the .984 rods I have seen are FF bushed, not press fit. The only press fit rods are OEM, neither of which will work with those.

Are you positive they are Gen-3? What is the comp height?

CH is 1.375. I got them for a Turbo Gen III build about a year ago, but that went south.

I believe Eagle makes rods in different sizes for the Viper.

Sorry to tell ya... but those are Gen-2 pistons, not Gen-3. That actually explains a lot!

Eagle ONLY make Gen-2 rods at this point and in a .984 FF pin. They may do a one-off if custom ordered, but I haven't ever asked. However, the rod length would not be right for your setup in any case.

A 1.375 on top of a Gen-3 [6.241] rod would stick almost .100 OVER the deck, while a 1.375 would sit about .040 BELOW deck on a Gen-2 [6.123] rod.

What is the bore? 4.020 or 4.050? if its 4.050, that is a BIG overbore for a Gen-2... I wouldn't do it unless it was sleeved.

Easy enough. Drop them on top of a set of Eagle rods in a Gen-2 bored to 4.030, and you are good to go. They wont have an optimized design being .040 in the hole, but they wont be any different than an OEM piston, as that is what they are as well.

The top of them are actually dished like the Gen IIIs you just posted(GLWS). Should make for a great FI build I would think.

That may be the case, but since the comp height of the higher level section of the done will still be .040 in the hole, you don't get the combination of lower CR from the dish, yet tight quench from the higher comp height. Either way, they will work fine- its just one of those scenarios where it wont be as crisp as it COULD have been with regard to timing ability and detonation resistance.
