96' RT/10s are usually referred to as a Gen 1.5. The horsepower is 415 which isnt a Gen 1 or 2 characteristic. The wheels are the same design but didnt come in chrome like gen 2's. The interior is still a gen 1, but suspension is a gen 2. Its alot of other qualities shared from Gen 1's and 2's, I just cant think of all them for now. To be a full fledged gen 2, you'd want a 97-02 RT/10.

'96 has the following:
Gen 1 engine
Gen 2 exhaust (hence the 415 HP rating instead of the 400 HP for all previous Gen 1s)
Gen 1 body (doors, hood, no windows, no external door handles, etc)
Gen 2 suspension
first year to have wheels other than the three spokes.
and other minor things, e.g. only year to have stock sliding windows (all previous years were zip-up vinyl), etc.
