Man am I pissed. I had a new dvd/stereo system installed in my 97 GTS. In order to remove the original Alpine deck. The whole front dash cover had to be removed.

Anyhow, when the stereo installer put back the dash cover. He chipped the rubbery paint , thats on the A-pillar. It seems that the dash and A-pillar frame. Is painted with somekind of black rubbery paint. ANyhow he put 2 chips on the driver side A-pillar. And next to it near the windshield I can see that the car's serial number plate is riveted on it as well.

Does anyone here know if thats just somekind of cover that can be replaced?? It seems like its one whole piece. Going around the whole upper windshield as well. The owner of the stereo shop has apologized. And will pay to fix it. But would like more info. And to see if anyone else has chipped the rubbery paint on their dashes before. Thank you. Your info will greatly help my case.

heres the link where you can see the pic

I have never had that apart so cannot really answer your question, but please allow me to join your rant that 95% of all car stereo installers should die a slow and painfull death for the hack jobs they do on cars. My car had broken off fasteners and wire loom holders behind the door panels etc. Hacks.

Yeah that's *****. If you just look at these dashes wrong they will scratch. Many a wise man say that the 99 Vipers are the "best" year for this reason. I'm sorry I cannot help (their is not much you can do) but I sympathize.

No, the Viper has a 1 piece windshield surround. No paint and it should not feel "rubbery." I do not plan on checking but I believe it is totally plastic. I do not understand how it could be chipped down to a metal surface.

eh bro! I Know. All that I said is for Gen I and Gen II. Gen III actually has a cover. Maybe the pic below will help you understand how I know.

The A-pillar is one piece and new to replace i was told is about 7,000 dollars  It's not a cover.

Correct, tell the owner of the shop to dig real deep, that surround piece you talk about is a part of the structure....talk about Viper tax and a half..ouch

I would of thought the installer would break the center plastic piece, how on earth did he go around his elbow to get to your A-pillar anyways????

I wish you well...
