Haltron is the GREEN, enviro safe option to Halon. I got a chrome one from ED but I think Sean Roe sell them now.

Actually, I just got off the phone with someone who supplies both Haltron and Halon extinguishers to the airline industry. Here's the scoop:

Haltron extinguishers are more expensive because they are new (he was selling them for $240). Halon extinguishers are no longer made, however, you can still get them. It takes about twice as much Haltron to accomplish what a Halon extinguisher can do (something to keep in mind). Additionally, with regard to storage, Halon is a liquid, so movement within a car, or long storage, will do nothing to it. Powder, however, can compact under long storage without movement and become ineffective when needed.

I found a chrome 2.5lb Halon extinguisher for a good proce at: http://www.halonmarketing.com/ext-prod.html

I hope I NEVER have to use this, but in case I do, I want to make sure I have the most effective product out there.

Sean is handeling all our extinghuishers now and has a great mounting system for your Vipers. I read the above post Halon vs. Halatron. I'm not sure but I think it implied that Halatron was a powder? Or he was referring to the old Sodium type extinghuishers.

Halatron was made to replace Halon, better for you and the enviroment, but there is plenty of Halon left for refills. The only way you can loose is, if you have neither!

After much research, the BEST on the market in my opinion is neither Haltron or Halon and should be judged by:

(1) the effectivness to put out fires quickly
(2) the toxicity to humans and corrosivness to the car.

(This the "HOT" fire suppression product of the moment)
"Cold Fire" http://www.firefreeze.com/

or

"Zero 2000 foam" by Lifeline http://www.lifeline-fire.co.uk/

These are completely safe for humans and very easy to clean up.

Stay away from any powder.

99:

I have to agree with you. I was talking to some racers who told me about Cold Fire. I understand that every crew member in NASCAR carries a can of this on their hip. On top of being effective, it will not damage your paint. This is approved by some racing clubs and series (like NASA)as an acceptable alternative.

I have never heard of the other one. Thanks for the info. One question, how did you mount your Cold Fire cannister in your car? Thanks for the feedback.

Lifeline is very popular with F1 and since money is no object for those teams, especially when it comes to safety, there must be a reason why so many choose Zero2000 and now Cold Fire.

In my 96 GTS, I used the electronic supression system from Lifeline. You can get it from Dewayne Ingraham/Essex Parts Service (770) 889-4096 (US distributor for Lifeline) I mounted it in the middle where the spare tire was and I had a nozzle shooting at my head and another at my chest. There was a red button on the cowl for a flagger to trigger as well as a button on the dash.

My teammates put in manual triggered Cold Fire supression systems that they got from Bruce's Speed Shop (973) 664-0192. I know they have the bottles designed specifically for racing. The Website doesn't show much. I suggest anyone interested email them direct or call Bruce.
