Has anyone modified a stock air box to improve flow?

Elimination of the water deflector would appear to have a positive effect on flow and hence performance. Anyone tried it? What were the results? The Hennessey carbon fiber air box may achieve the desired result while continuing to allow the engine to breath fresh air from the NACA duct (as it should be in my opinion); the cost is just plain prohibitive.

I already have K&N's and my car is stock save a full Belanger header/exhaust system without cats.

Information greatly appreciated .........

Joe - Kip Partridge at K&P Engineering (303-697-5821) has already modified the stock airbox to have 3 in. tubes. I'm sure that he could eliminate the water deflector. He does a very professional job. Jerry Scott

I did cut out the underside of my air boxes...worked fine.

I do not realy understand the need of 3" tubes, the guys running the GT classes do have a restrictor plate alowing only 1 1/4" of diameter per trottle body, and they still have about 550 to 600 RWHP....

Big Jim:

The method you describe is exactly what I had in mind. Where did you obtain the ABS plastic? Any problems with structural integrity after the mods? Did you modify your original and procure a stock box for future use or to return to stock?

Thanks .....

PartRack offers a higher-flow "Rear Section" airbox, with nifty carbon-fibre 3" outlets......fastens up to the OEM front box. Provides a less-restrictive intake, and you can easily HEAR the difference thru the NACA. It really SUX ! $375
