I'm pretty sure that this isn't normal, but i'll ask any way. A few weeks ago, someone was asking about how the heater was blowing cold air and someone suggested turning the nob to somewhere that i can't exactly recall. I just did a search and can't seem to locate that thread, let alone do a search for "heater" (also, not to hijack on my own thread, the search doesn't seem to go back to more than a year, if that anymore). Can anyone tell me what's possibly causing the heater to blow cold air? However, when the mode is set on the "floor" (direction of air flow), the heat does come out. Thanks again.

You answered your own question.

Floor & Defrost are the Heater settings.

Vent is for outside air and A/C.

Hot air does not come out of the vents facing passengers.

In other words all settings to the RIGHT of OFF are for heat.

All settings to the LEFT of OFF are for cool air.

All air goes through the evaporator (A/C) first. Unlike other cars, where it all also goes through the heater core, in the Viper it splits into two directions; one way for the dash (vent and AC) and the other for the floor/windshield (defrost/mix/floor.) Only the latter passes through the heater core, so only the defrost, floor heat, and a mixture of the two can provide cockpit heat. The dash (vent and AC) doesn't go over the heater core, cannot provide hot air, no matter where the temperature knob is set.

Thanks viprvenm.

So since floor & defrost are the heater settings, does the heater warm the driver adequately when it's 50 and below? Looks like i might have to keep my winter gloves handy. And as an aside, does the Gen 3 cars have this "problem" when it comes to their heater? Thanks again.

I have never heard anyone complain that their Viper did not get warm inside (assuming roof and windows on). Even with the heater off.

I guess there's a first time for everything, huh? :)

Seriously, the car that i have doesn't emanate heat as with some of the accounts that i've read on the forum. Same goes with the side sills.

It would be really nice to get "outside" air venting into the cockpit, but since any outside air has to pass over the V10 oven sitting in front of the cockpit, it is never even cool despite the outside temps. I have never once turned the heat on in my car, even driving in 30 degree dry winter days. It is "toasty" in no time regardless of the outside temps... :2tu:
