D*mb*ss newbie post....

It just occurred to me.... I have no idea how you would wash a GenI car. The car has no windows or roof; from the sounds of posts I've read, some people have never put on their tops. But I'm guessing they've washed their cars.... :)
So, how do you guys wash/detail your car without turning the interior into a hot tub?

Although I'm still not an owner (soon hopefully), I think a popular response will be "get the VMania glass windows, then you can throw on the top and wash it normally!"

You can put your windows and top on for the washing process :)

For my gen2, I have often washed it without a top on (only a few drops splashed in, no big deal, have to wipe down the inside and what's a few drops of water but more cleaning solution!), but I put the windows up (and be sure to put in rear window!). I suspect you could get by with the windows out if you do as Gerald says.

As Gerald said... When I wash ours, I usually don't have the top or side windows on it. I have the front pointed slightly uphill on our driveway and I use the hose without a sprayer on it. Because of the incline of the driveway, as water sheets off the front of the car it just falls through the cowl and to the ground. Water on the back part just runs off too. I usually do a quick wipe down and find a few sprinkles here and there in the interior, but nothing major.

I just use a lot of extra towels, pretty much covering the entire cockpit and stuff some behind the seats. And yes, just be careful when you're using the hose. I've never had a problem.

I knew when I saw this question that someone would say, very carefully.
I just wash mine with the top and curtains off. I hold the rinse hose inside the car to squirt out the back window opening. A little spray gets in the car. I wipe it off.

Take the windows and the top off and put the Karcher to maximum. Then fire away.
Afterwards you use a yard blower (preferably a 2 stroke version which spits oil) to remove the water.

Just kidding.
Give me call when you're ready for your first wash. I'll come over and help you. Did you find a car yet ?

WASH?????

My Gen 1 is 2 years old, I have washed it twice. (and I DO drive it, approx. 10.000 miles/year!)
Wash it once well with Dawn, then a ton of Zaino on it.
Never wash your car again!
Lauri

PS. For the first time: Use soft cotton rag and garden hose without nozzle. This way you can hose the bubbles away without getting interior wet. Cover seats with towels anyway.

Doh! Smartass that I am, I should have seen some of those
answers coming.... ;)
I'm going out to ID on Wed. to check out some cars. There's a distinct possibility that I'll driving something back.... :) Of course, the weather forecast is excellent, right up until Portland, where it's going to dump. So Yves, I may be taking you up on that offer....

Always wash min with only the rear window installed. No side windows or roof. I have the VMania windos, but seldom use them.

No problem. Just use running water around the windshield, doors and sport bar.

I have no idea how one could avoid washing their car. I end up washing it at least once per weekend of use. Had the SRT out 3 times and each one mandated washing. I cannot put the car up for the night dirty. Maybe it is just Michigan roads. Dirty and filled with *** holes.
