HVAC fan problem - Need help

I actually have two problems, one irritating, one merely annoying - you decide which is which.

My HVAC fan only blows on high speed. I did a search and came up with the blower motor resistor is bad. Advice given was to have dealer fix it under warranty. No warranty here though, so where is it and how do I get to it? Under dash, through dash, in engine bay? Picture would help if possible (a thousand words will suffice tho).

Drivers door squeaks (actually more of a grinding sound) when closing. I applied a fairly liberal amount of silicon to the hinge but that didn't help at all. Is the hinge bushing bad? Any easy fixes (and by easy I mean cheap)? The door doesn't sag.

Any help appreciated.

Most resistor clusters are close to the fan blower so they can be cooled by the fan. Find the fan under the hood and I bet you find your resistors. There should be an electrical plug and a few screws maybe?

Any shiny metal bits or dust or shavings visible below or on the hinge?

And try silicone spray next time. That hard element known as silicon makes a crappy lubricant...

Thanks, Dave. I'll rummage around for the fan motor. And silcon can be quite slippery too. Have you ever tried to hold onto one of those tiny chips? Apparently you need to be in a valley for some reason.
