Are there any real "drop in" aftermarket radiators? I'm getting ready for this mod too. Ron Davis, Fluidyne etc.?

I got my Ron Davis from Parts Rack. I didn't want to fuss with it so I asked my Viper Tech to do it. He said it dropped right in.

I personally installed a Ron Davis last night, that I bought from Daniel Lesser :

The radiator itself is TRULY a drop in. The only part that requires work, is triming the stock fan shroud to make up for some of the features of the Radiator (like built in oil cooler, if you get that model).

I am very pleased with the fit and finish. I cant speak to its cooling abilities as I have yet to run it. But a lot of good things have been said about this radiator.

Can the factory airbox still be use with a Ron Davis? I thought I saw somewhere a radiator upgrade that required the use of cone filters (no factory airbox).

ab,

I have a fluidyne "stacker" system that fits in the stock opening. It is similar to that seen on this page:

http://www.fluidyne.com/pl_radiators.html

called the Double 38mm with stack EOC.

What I did is sent them the dimensions of the radiator opening and size and location of the fittings/hoses and they custom built it to fit. The EOC (engine oil cooler) is slightly narrower than the radiator as the stock opening on the VIper is as such. Let them know your intended use, HP level, etc. and they will size the number of rows (thickness) accordingly. This is a nice set up becuase the radiator and oil cooler are in parallel and get clean air as opposed to a stock set up in series where some of the radiator air has already been preheated by going through the oil cooler.

I have a H M S carbon air box that fits fine. I have not tried a stock air box.

Cost custom sized with all the proper hose/fittings sizes for the radiator and oil cooler was just under $1000 directly from Fluidyne.

I have a fair amount of HP, a stock hood (no center vents) and raod race in high heat (THill,Buttonwillow in summer) and have never had high temp problems with this set up.

I also have dual fans that I wired to the stock plug/sensors.

If you are interested further, I can take a photo and do some measurements for you.

As a side note, this is the same set up used on the ORECA cars, only not as thick.

Regards,

See my post regarding the Ron Davis. I bought the one without the integral oil cooler and it took under an hour start to finish. No trimming required.

Simms,

I have the exact same Fluidyne radiator/EOC setup as Mike (WCKDVPR). The stock airbox did not fit without cutting notches out of the bottom of the airbox as you can see in the pics. I currently have the Factory Ten Carbon Fiber airbox which fits with no problems. Sorry, I can't answer for the Ron Davis unit. I bought the Fluidyne through Ted May 408-448-8811
