<FONT face="Comic Sans MS">As we all know, the stock oil pressure gauge is so heavily dampened that it is virtually worthless in identifying a zero oil pressure condition until valuable seconds (15+) are lost. Rather than replace the gauge with a non-stock looking mechanical one, I added a low oil pressure warning LED on the steering column.

Still not satisfied though, I acquired a used Viper oil pressure gauge to disassemble and experiment with.
What I found was that the dampening agent was a thick silicone type gel within the needle shaft housing. Several attempts to flush this fluid out were unsuccessful. Given the windings around the needle shaft, further disassembly looks to be fruitless as reassembly would be impossible.
I'm open to suggestions for further experimentation.....
