Hi,
I bought one of these in preparation of a s/c setup and have some questions before I start.

The switched power to the relay #86- Any reason I can't use the same power line going to the vec?

The line from the msd relay 85 to the "original fuel pump relay" - I get that from the pcm - grey connector, pin 19 brown w/ violet?

The hose to intake manifold- can that be attached to the map sensor with a T?

Where do you pick up the wires to the fuel pump that have to be within 12" of the pump?

Thanks in advance for any help!

It has been a very long time since I did this, but I ran the wires from the booster all the way up to the pump and connected as close to the pump as I could. It's been a few years, but I think I may have had to lengthen the wires as well. Fish them up along the existing harness located behind the drivers side rear fender well.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but on my '01 the MAP sensor is mounted directly to the intake. No hose. But there is an unused port up by the TB's on the driver's side. Probably a test port.

Simms,
If you remember- do you cut the existing wires to the fuel pump and replace them with the msd wires, or are they tapped into the existing wires? Do you access these from under the car, or from inside the trunk area? Looking at the diagram it looks like you are cutting out the fuel pump relay??

Dave- I will check that out
Thanks Gary

TED,
When I installed my vec I didn't use the vacuum line, I used my cars map sensor instead of the one in the vec. I was told by Dave at Roe that there were 2 ways of doing it and this was the better way. I don't know if that applies with the s/c though, since I am just getting my s/c now.

Thanks
Gary

Just in case anyone else needs these-

MSD Fuel Pump Voltage Booster
Installation Instructions

1. Remove Driver’s rear wheel.
2. Remove two black plastic push-in fastners holding whee lwell to body. One is toward the front, at the bottom. The other is toward the back, and also holds the battery cover. Simply grasp the center “button” with a pair of pliers and pull out. The fastner can now be removed. This allows the wheel well to move around for Step 3.
3. Push wheel well up around shock tower.
4. Locate a one inch diameter wire loom that attaches to shock tower/frame.
5. Release wire loom from fastner that holds it to the frame. This allows you to pull the wire loom toward you with about six inches of slack.
6. Open wire loom and pull out wires. Cut black tape from wires and locate the 16 gauge green wire with a white stripe, and the 14 gauge black wire with a tan stripe.
7. Separate these two wires from the rest of the bundle. These are the wires for the fuel pump.
8. Locate the MSD Fuel Pump Voltage Booster. Place it on top of the Driver’s footbox, under the hood.
9. Run the red and black wires in the wireloom down to the transmission tunnel to the back of the car. Zip tie the wires to the brake lines in the tunnel so it does not come loose while driving.
10. Route the wires up the framerail to the wires for the fuel pump.
11. Cut the wires for the fuel pump in the middle so you have enough wire to work with.
12. Attach the red wire to the green wire with the white stripe that goes toward the front of the car. Attach the black wire to the black wire with the tan stripe that goes toward the front of the car. NOTE: We always recommend soldering all wires for the best connection.
13. The cut wires going to the back of the car come from the fuel pump relay. These wires must be capped or taped so they do not touch together or “short out.”
14. Locate and remove the PCM cover on the Driver’s footbox, just forward of the door.
15. Unscrew the PCM from the Driver’s footbox.
16. Using a 3/16” drill bit, drill a hole through the side of the footbox, behind the PCM.
17. Locate the relay attached to the MSD fuel pump voltage booster. Locate the wire attached to Pin 86 on the relay. Run this wire through the hole you drilled. NOTE: We always recommend using grommets to protect wires from “shorting out.” Electrical tape can be used also.
18. Under the dash, by the steering column, locate the blue 16 gauge wire. This wire is 12 volt positive with the key in the on and start position. You can test this with a voltage meter or test light.
19. Attach the wire that you routed into the car from Pin 86 on the relay to the blue, switched power, wire. This will turn the relay on. If you do not have the correct wire, the booster will not turn on.
20. Mount the PCM back on the footbox.
21. Locate the gray and black connector on the PCM. Remove the black cover on the gray connector to access the wires going into the connector.
22. Locate the 18 gauge brown wire with the violet stripe. At Pin 19 on the gray connector. This wire will trigger the relay for the MSD voltage booster.
23. Cut that wire about two inches from the gray connector.
24. Attach the brown wire with the violet stripe, from the PCM, to the wire coming from Pin 85 on the MSD relay. Cap or tape the other side of the brown wire with the violet stripe so it does not “short out.”
25. Locate the black wire coming out of the MSD box and attach it to the grounding stud located behind the Driver’s front wheel on the frame by the sidesill.
26. Turn the adjustment screw on the MSD box, approximately ¾ of the way open (counter clock wise).
27. If using MSD box with VEC 2 : Cut a two inch piece of 1/8” vacuum hose from VEC 2. Attach to supplied “T’ fitting and vacuum hose. Attach VEC 2 vacuum hose to “T’ fitting. If not using MSD box with VEC 2: Attach 1/8” vacuum hose, not supplied, to a vacuum port on the intake manifold.
28. Turn the key to the on/run position. Do not start the car. Listen for the “hum” of the fuel pump to turn on. If you do not hear the fuel pump turn on, check all connectors and wires. If it does turn on, start the car. Then shut it off.
29. Reinstall all parts removed from car.
