I've been enjoying this forum for weeks now and recently purchased a black on black '99 RT/10. I want to replace the stock air filter and miserable corrugated tubes with smooth tubes and K&N Filters. I would like to buy a chrome tube set up with two conical K&N (like the BTR Max Flow), however, that type of system requires removal of the stock air box. I am wondering if that would allow water to infiltrate the engine compartment in the unwanted event I get stuck in the rain. Also, does the conical system provide better flow (performance) than just getting the K&N filters and smooth tubes for the stock airbox? Anyones help here would be greatly appreciated.

Most folks go with K&N over conical. I've seen both at the dragstrip but have yet to see conical at the track. The argument is that conical pick up engine heat. Dunno if it's true or not but I doubt there's much HP difference between the two. I also don't think rain will be an issue.

I also wondered about picking up engine heat with the conicals since they just sit open in front of the engine. STUGOTS, I didn't think of the chrome getting too hot, but that does make sense to me.
