Is it normal for ABS on 01\' to allow any lock-up at all?
Ok folks, this isn't meant to be a dumb question. Let me explain... .
I have a new 01" RT with 1,300 miles on it. I am following all break in rules and the car is great! I previously had a 98' RT which obviously did not have ABS. The Viper stops like it's tied to a tree even without ABS. My other cars have ABS and I am used to how it flutters and barely allows a chirp when you hammer down.
OK. I decided to try out the brakes and really hit em' hard for a second to see how they felt on the Viper. I was going in a straight line about 40mph and tested it out. The tires chirped loudly (obviously locked for a second) and I backed off so I wouldn't flat-spot my new tires. The Viper braked well, but I never did feel any flutter or ABS-like sensation. Is this normal? No ABS dash light is on.
To wrap up my description, I did not hold down on the brakes after I felt the lock-up and heard the loud chirps. QUESTION: are the ABS on the Viper set up so that it doesn't kick on as quickly as you might expect? Obviously the car has huge tires and pretty darn good stopping power without ABS. Should I go try it out again to feel the "flutter", or does it not kick on until the car has locked-up longer. I need your advice, as I don't want to abuse my tires. No distress light on either.
Do I have an ABS problem? Should I hammer the brakes longer?
Thanks folks, I appreciate your comments!
