Is the sports bar a roll bar?

I've seen conflicting reports, some say yes, others say no, I was wondering if we could get a definitive answer.

The Factory says "NO" it is not by any means a rollbar.

According to Dodge, supposedly no. According to Lime Rock Park, yes. Probably depends on whether the answer is for liability, track use, or insurance. Wish I knew, too.

I'm just off Route 9D - we have to be close.

Some have said that they have seen several RT's throughout the years roll and the sport bar held up the car well.

Factory still says "no" though.

Tom, I passed you this fall, in Red Oaks Mill, I was in my Jeep, gave you the "fangs" sign, (like a peace sign, but with the first and middle finger bent), but I don't think you saw me, either that, or you just blew me off, uhhh Viper owners.

I have seen two RT-10's upside down and the sport bar was holding the rear end of the car off of the ground.



BUT - If this happens I'm pretty sure the sport bar won't help much!

It acted as a roll bar for Frasier (Kelsy Grammer)when he flipped his RT/10.

Yes - it's a roll bar - it's about 1" by 3" rectangular steel tubing - thick walled. It's the same inthe RT and GTS. It also has additional upright tubular supports at the outer corners. We cut ours out of the racecar because it already had a full cage - and we gave it to Tom Sessions for illustration. It's a VERY heavy and strong piece.

It is not called a rollbar for legal reasons, but I would trust it.

There is a diagram in the owners manual showing what it looks like, but I have not yet found the specs.

Tom Sessions told me I'd have to have an actual roll bar installed if I was going to do any more Viper Days back in 2003. I'm 6'5" tall and have the seats lowered 2" and there is no way a roll bar can be put in my GTS, so I haven't been back to Viper Days.

Any chance this new info will have Tom change his mind?

The Autoform Roll Bar will more than suffice for Viper Days, and it does not affect head height because it is behind you. Would not matter how short or tall you are with this type of bar.
partsrack.com has a pic of the bar. Does this mean if you install one of these, you would come back to Viper Days?

Kenny - as fast as your car is - it needs more safety equipment - just like in drag racing, the more mods you have the more safety equipment you need to have - that's just the way it is. The rules is the rules.

It is NEVER a bad investment to get more safety equipment.
