Is this a safe mounting location in the trunk?

Hi Guys,

I am going to add a Matrix Plus pre-amp to my sound system setup. I have one in my truck and it's fabulous. My two amps in The Viper are mounted in the trunk vertically on the front wall above the spare tire. The Matrix will fit nicely on that flat spot to the right of the amp pictured, even with the amp endcap installed. I am wondering if it's safe to use a short screw or two there to mount the Matrix, or is the gas tank right up against there? If not, I'll either use some Velcro or fabricate a bracket that could attach to the wood the amp is mounted to, as the Matrix is light, only about 2 lbs. I did post this question in another thread a few weeks back that was somewhat unrelated to the subject, no replies there, so apologies in advance for the double post.

Thanks in advance.

Just a thought, will one of your rear tires fit in the trunk if you get a flat and need to use your little donut tire?

That is a really good question. I honestly have never thought to test it, and I'd have to refer back to my owner's manual to even know the procedure for putting the flat one in the trunk and how to strap it down, etc. (I guess it's been a blessing that I've never got a flat in 24 years, knock on wood) I'm going to install a battery cutoff switch soon and I will test it then. The two amps kind of form a wedge on the front wall so no doubt I have probably 4" or so less space than without them being there. The amps do stick out just far enough that the spare will just barely not go in and out unless it's slightly deflated, or unless the catch for the trunk is removed. Which is why I have a little wrench for those 4 bolts in my trunk kit, and a can of fix-a-flat if the deflate/reinflate method were to be used.

Anyways, safe to use short screws in the area pictured or no?

the gas tank sits up against the back panel - in this picture the gas tank would basically sit anywhere you see the silver cushion pad

if you arn't too far to the right you're probably okay, but there's also a wiring harness around that area as well, so you might get unlucky with your poking.....

it's only fiberglass so if you use a small drill bit you can sloooooowly poke through it and then stick a feeler in to make sure there isn't anything behind it
