Guys, I have now taken posession of my 1st Gen II, and I am curious about the brakes. I have a 99, so no ABS. With stock brakes, can you lock the wheels up if you hit the brakes hard form 20, 30 or 40 MPH? I know in my Gen I, I can lock the brakes up at ANY speed, even 15 MPH.

I ask because I hit the brakes really hard yesterday on the GEN 2 while doing about 40 MPH and expected to lock them up or skid, and they didn't. I have Pilots on the front of the car as well.

Thanks,

Manny

Right front usually locks first. If yours aren't locking, you ain't pushing hard enough OR you pads need a few high speed stops in a row to get rid of the glazed surface. Cars that are babied rarely get the pads broken in correctly. New pads would work too.

Try to stomp on them real fast, and they'll lock up gauranteed.

With the amount of power both of your cars are capable of, you should upgrade to StopTech big brake kit.

I've learned from this board that the stock brakes are not even adequate for a stock car, let alone a highly modified one. Although they seem to be adequate to me at first, until I made some abrupt stops. Fronts would lock up easily...

A cheaper option than big brake kit is an upgraded rear caliper that will improve the front to rear bias. It's being offered by a VCA member (Tom F&L GoR):

Someone with this mod, or with a big brake kit may want to chime in.
