I am the VERY proud new owner of a 1996 Viper RT-10. It has 9,800 miles and appears to be mechanically sound. I am having one small problem. When I decelerate to a stop, like approaching a traffic light, the motor dies. I then restart it and it runs great, until I stop again. It happens about 6 out of 10 stops. The motor can either be cold or hot. It seems to make no difference.

Any suggestions?

This is nothing but a guess.

I did an engine swap with a GM EFI engine one time.
I had to make the GM computer runn the engine in the new car.

One of the inputs needed was a Vehicle Speed Sensor. It was a pulse that came from the drivetrain when the car was in motion.
The EFI would work without it but it would cut out in exactly the same way as yours.

So perhaps you need that signal in a Viper, I don't know. Perhaps there is something wrong with your VSS signal.

This is sounding like more of a longshot as I write it.

Sounds like its not getting enough gas. Maybe a fuel filter, clean injectors. Must use Premium Unleaded.

I suggest you post this again in the Gen I, n' Gen II Forum

Have you adjusted your throttle cables? Sounds like they got out of synch. I believe there was a Illustrated Upgrade on the adjustment process. I has a TSA performed years ago locking the adjustment. When they are out of synch you experience lurching and decel die-outs.

Viper SRT is, in my opinion, 100% correct. I had the same problem with my 96 RT and it completely disappeared when I adjusted the throttle cables. The procedure was in an issue of Viper Magazine a few years ago.
