I have changed quite a few fuel filters in my day, but never on a Viper. I have researched the VCA archives on fuel filter line removal. But I am stuck one part of the service.

My Viper has 8,700 miles on the OD, but with the head gasket replacemet this summer I think it is prudent for a new fuel filter.

The first question is, do I need a fuel line disconnect tool to pull back the line release tabs, or can I do it with my fingers?
If a fuel line disconnect tool is need, then what size is it. The shop manual as always fails to give tool sizes on common service issues.

thanks for the help in advance.

Arthur

This is scan is from the VCA archives..shows what I am facing for the fuel filter change.

Fingers might work...if not, try 3/8" to 1/2" disconnet tool... such as "OEM" 4 piece set 25150.

I'll be getting in to mine again this Jan/Feb. Time for all the fluid/filter changes again.

At only 9k miles... Why? That fuel filter is still fine I bet. 'No reason to fix it it if it aint broke', and all that......

That's what worked for me. One of them in the set fits, and cheap enough at Autozone or O'Reilleys. I couldn't get mine apart just using fingers, and the tool gives you more surface area to push against evenly.

I agree that the years don't matter at all with a fuel filter. I wouldn't bother if there are no symptoms. The job can be a royal PITA !
