Michelin 19-Inch Track Tire a Possibility--If Enough Demand

I wrote an email to Michelin and called their customer service suggesting that they make the Pilot Sport Cup http://www.michelinman.com/catalog/tires/MichelinPilotSportCup.html?tiretype=3&tire=0 or another track tire in sizes that will fit 2003 through 2005 Vipers. I suggested 19-inch rim size for the rear just like the OE and an inch wider tread (i.e., 11 inches) than OE for the front. I told them that the only way we SRT-10 owners could get track tires (Michelin or otherwise) was to go with 18 inch rims all the way around, which required a modification to the e-break calipers. In other words, there is ZERO supply to meet our demand for track tires that will fit OE rim size. I was told by the Michelin rep, who took down my name and phone number, that Michelin counts these calls and emails as an indication of demand the for a tire and at some point, when the demand is high enough, will respond with production. I was told that perhaps my call would be the one that tipped the scales. Or, maybe, just maybe, it will be your call or email. :)

If you're interested, please let Michelin know about it:

Either call 1-800-847-3435 (then press 5) between 8:30AM and 6:00PM eastern, M-F and make the request, or (and this option only takes about 30 seconds) click http://www.michelinman.com/mastapp/servlet/Controller/site.misc.LoadContactUs, fill in your contact info, and tell 'em what you want in the comment window. Or, if you like, simply cut and paste the following message in the comment window:

"Although SRT-10 Vipers (2003 -- current) come stock with Michelin Pilot Sport tires, nobody makes a track tire for this car. Accordingly, please produce the Pilot Sport Cup, or another track tire, in sizes that will fit our SRT-10 Vipers."

I'll make the call to help out. I'd like to see toyo and hoosiers also made, but with the wierd rear rim size. it will probably be a while if all.

I have an extra set of ACR wheels that I will be running toyo's on, you just have to make the e-brake mode so they slip on.

We're concerned about them continuing to make street tires in the Gen1 & Gen 2 Viper Sizes.

History:

The XGT and MXX3 that we used on the Gen 1 and Gen 2 cars were discontinued as the tire line evolved to the Pilot Sport. But at least Michelin made the Pilot Sport in Viper Sizes.

The replacement for the Pilot Sport is here, it’s called the Pilot PS2 and Michelin told me there are NO plans at this time to make the PS2 in 17" or 18" Viper Sizes so when the Pilot Sport goes away, well......

Thanks Jay! You know, posting one's interest on this board might help out as well. I could always forward to Michelin the link, which might count for something.

Oh that's great... Okay, I guess we need to add the Pilot PS2 to the (now) list of requested tires. :p

So, whose going to help out???
