I called Michelin Motor Sports division (800-722-3234) and chatted with a very helpful and friendly guy about performance tire options for Gen III Vipers.

I told him that if Michelin would make the new Pilot Sport Cup tires available in sizes to fit Gen III Vipers, that he would likely have a good market for such tires. He seemed quite responsive to this idea, and said that Michelin has a strategy of going after the "club racer" "track day" performance tire market, and that this might just fit in. He said that he would talk with the guy at Michelin who is responsible for the Dodge Viper program and get back to me.

I'm crossing my fingers. Seems like the Pilot Sport Cup would be the pefect solution as a DOT legal track day and road racing tire. If they'd just make it in sizes to fit my stock rims, I'd buy a set tomorrow.

Nice work! I'm ready to buy a set (and a new set of rims from JonB to go with them) yesterday!

It probably wouldn't hurt for some of you who are interested in track tires to give them a call and let them know that there is interest. (800-722-3234)

Given how many Viper owners do track days with their cars, I'm surprised Michelin hasn't already done something about it.

Kai,

Did the e-mail thing from you initial thread about these tires. If you think that it would help, though, I'll call as well.

Message sent to Michelin. Although I don't have a SRT-10, I do have 19 inch rims on my GTS.

It wasn't me that initiated this original post, but I did leave an e-mail message for Michelin as a result of that post. All I got back was a form response telling me to contact the motor sports department if I wanted to provide suggestions about track tires. That's why I called the motorsports people. I figured that my e-mail wasn't getting through to the right people.

Mmmmmm...That's odd. I received a completely different email response, which acknowledged that I had emailed and called, suggested that my email had been forwarded on appropriately, and suggested in the future I either call or email as before. Here is what it said, in relevant part:

"This represents follow up to both this e-mail and your recent telephone
conversation with us. We appreciate your passionate interest in Michelin
brand tires. Your suggestions have been documented and forwarded
within our organization for future consideration. Please continue to
monitor our Web site for tire size additions.

If you have additional questions, please respond to this email
or you may call us at 1-800-847-3435 (toll-free) between
8:30AM and 6:00PM Eastern Time Monday through Friday to allow
one of our Consumer Relations Representatives to assist you."

Honestly, I'm impressed that they bother to write back at all, hehe. So, where the hell are the track tires, Kai?

I used to run sport cups on my GTS but was informed by Bobby Archer that these were now difficult to get (I have no separate verification of that assertion) so I switched to Michelin slicks for Viper Days (allowed in super-mod).

Michelin has me confused most of the time.

I'd probably go for a set too, new rims and all.
