How is it lowered . . .

How did you lower your car and how much did you lower it? Eibachs?
One of the odd things about this car is that it is a bit of a detective project. The previous owner only had it since November, it had all the mods on it when he got it, and he has no idea what the parts are or where they came from. For example, it took Lou Belanger to tell me the headers are from Edelbrock and the rear mufflers are from Corsa (what is between those two is a mess - but I digress). As far as the suspension goes, after detailing the wheelwells and suspension last weekend I can tell you it has Koni shocks with blue painted bodies, but the springs are black and I could not find any printing on them to help with identification. If anyone is an expert, I could throw some calipers on the springs if the OD of the wire would help us identify them. I believe Eibach springs are usually red (not sure at all here) so they are probably not Eibachs. The ride is harsh. I think too harsh. As a matter of fact, I am almost positive that the car could be faster around a road course with more travel and softer springs. Sorry I cannot be more help.

Re: How is it lowered . . .

The eibach's on my car are black, and I believe the stock koni's are blue on my gts.
Aha more clues. Well I guess they could be Eibachs, but I know that Eibach has a reputation for making shorter springs that are only marginally stiffer than the stockers (good idea I think) so you can use the stock shocks. I don't have Viper experience, but man this car rides harsh and I do not think it fits that mold. I also noticed that someone had put a small hose clamp around the the bottom rung of the rear springs to hold it down to the seat as if when you unloaded the suspension it might rattle loose.

The springs on the stock car are solid black, the Eibach springs are kind of a metallic black, almost dark grey metallic. It would be hard to tell the difference in the shade.

The eibachs do have white lettering and a part number on them which are pretty tough to remove without some work. They should still be on there if they were installed that way.

Nice looking car and excellent choice of wheels. I've had those for about 3 years and still love them. You will be happy to know that they tend to collect very little brake dust and they are easy to clean.

Sweet car Phoenix! Was this an AZ car when you bought it? I don't think I have ever seen it around.

Hey phoenix,
Beautiful GTS! Did you happen to get this one in Southern Cali? Saw one for sale, around the same price, and same mileage as yours. And also, was a Very very rough ride, but the first and only viper i have been in.

That is the one. The previous owner is in South Carolina, but the car was in Huntington Beach. In addition to being the color I wanted, it was attractive since it was from a private party which means no sales/use tax here in Arizona (saved me over $3k compared to a car from a dealer), and it was so close I did not have any shipping costs other than plane tickets for my girl and I to Orange County. A little rough, and I would be happier if I paid $1,500 to $2,000 less, but a Silver GTS project car for $40k is what I was looking for. It is already starting to come around. I think I will replace the driver's door hinge this weekend so the door stays propped open. Big breakthrough will be next week when Lou Belanger redoes the leaking POS exhaust.

Re: How is it lowered . . .

What a coincidence, I was thinking of buying that car also but then i went on vacation and came back to see it was sold!

Atm, im looking for a 2000 gts, one with around 15k miles on it. Hopefully that will turn up soon.
Btw, the guys at the shop are quite nice and im pretty sure they didnt abuse the car themselves.

Just curious, but what exactly is wrong with the exhaust?

Mark
:)
It has no cats so will not pass emissions, stinks and sounds like crap. From the cat area back is an abomination. Goes from 3" to 2.25", touches the frame in multiple places, has welds that would embarass a sophmore in high school shop class, and is way too loud for me. The Edelbrock headers look to be in fair shape, but due to gasket failure are leaking from the mid-flange. Looks like flex sections are OK, but the flanges should probably be resurfaced for a great seal with new gaskets and after talking it through with Lou, the labor to straighten out the Edelbrocks would make getting brand new Belanger headers and selling the decent Edelbrocks to cover the difference a no-brainer. The headers should come back from the coater on Friday and they should start on Monday. I am REALLY excited to get this straightened out. There is nothing like an exhaust leak to give you a feeling that a car is a real POS (the leaks have gotten WAY worse in the month I have had it indicating that the mid-flange gaskets have only recently taken a powder).

Re: My new-to-me Silver 98 GTS with 19

well maybe i can tell you somethings about your car if its the same one, which i dont think that car had a twin brother,
it was built in miami , and raced often ,had two highly polish nitrous bottles in the trunk ,has ported heads , and bigger TB, very fast car back when it was around town,
i still have pics of the car in my computer and of the bottles in the back
it has no cats because in miami you dont have to pass the smog test.
email if you want some pics of the nitrous set up

FINALLY! Some one who has info on my car. I saw in some old service records that it used to have a nitrous kit so I think we have the same car. I would like any info/pictures you have. Thanks for speaking up. Especially about the heads. When the headers come off next week we'll have to check and see if the exhaust ports look ported. I clicked on your name and don't see your e-mail address. I pm'd you my e-mail address.
