I went in for my first oil change on my 02 RT/10, with 432 miles on it.

The oil pan screws were wet with oil, and there was some staining on the bottom of the pan.

Does anyone know why this would happen to a brand new car?

Robert -- Was this the first oil change? Any drips at the usual parking/storage spot? Was it "down a quart?"

May be spillage from an earlier change or oil pan not attached or tightenend properly. (I sprayed oil from a loose filter during an earlier change and it doesn't drip, but you can still see residual oil on the frame.) Did you have a dealer look at it -- I'd think a problem with the engine block or oil pan should be covered under warranty. Good luck and let us know what was amiss.

If the screws are oiled.... I would say it is leaking. The gasket is VERY expensive. It is a piece of cake to put on. This is one part that a blind person could actually install....I kid you not.

None of this matters since your car is under warranty. A mechanic ready to receive your car could replace the gasket while you waited.

Sorry...but I don't understand how to reply to posts. For example, when I get in the forum after logging in, I put my curser on POST, and cannot post. Also, once I finally stumble around and manage to post, I don't see how to reply, unless I reply to a response to my post.?

Anyway, if someone can tell me how The h*** to use this site, I would appreciate it.

It's been a couple of years since I've posted. Things have changed.

Back to the leaking oil pan....I was hoping to hear something related to improper procedure (material related or torquing), or perhaps cracks or porosity?

Any known problems with the 02 oil pans? Thanks.

With 150+ you must be doing something right!

Anyway, after logging in (unless you accept cookines and the site recocnizes your PC), pick the FORUM you want to browse like "General Viper Discussion RT/10 and GTS Discussions"
Once there, you will see off to the right "post" to add a NEW topic.
When you go to any TOPIC, you will see off to the right of the last reply "edit, reply, quote, quick reply.
