New Viper Owner, car came with a front splitter that I just installed...

    This has now happened to me twice, I hit a high rate of speed and my hood starts bouncing up and down about an inch or so. I stopped and checked to see if it's securely latched and it is and appears to be completely securely latched.. This is freaking me out, anybody else had this happen to them?

    When I purchased this car, the front splitter/spoiler/lip/air dam, whatever you call it was not installed, but looked like it had been at one point.

    I installed it this weekend, and now again, when passing someone, the front hood, or possibly the entire front of the car started jumping up/down about an inch or more, and totally freaked me out. I thought that maybe I had not secured the hood, so I pulled over and verified that it was completely latched. I then assumed that maybe it was not originally latched correctly, but the violent jumping up/down might have re-latched it. But it happened to me again this week.

    During the install, I secured it with 4 bolts under the car, and 2 screws on either side of the car fenders.
    Is this something that sounds familiar to you or someone in the past has had to adjust the front lip up or down to prevent this from happening?

    The other possibility is that my installing the front lip is purely coincidental and my hood latch is trying to fail, but whenever I check it, it is securely attached. Meaning, that while parked, I cannot lift up the hood at all, the entire car front end will move if I grab the front intake scoop and pull up, but high speed has caused it to react violently 2 times this week.

    This is the splitter I installed, but this is assuming this is even the cause of the issue.

    I have been at a high rate of speed before in this car before this was installed with no issues.

    does it happen all the time? What is a high rate of speed? Did it happen before the splitter install? I would remove the splitter and see what happens...however the pulling of the scoop and the whole front end moving needs more clarification....nice car..

    You are correct the front splitter is moving in the middle up and down. When this occurs you will and can lose control of the front end at very high rates of speed. I experienced this same thing with my front splitter. Remedy, either find a different style front splitter or be prepared to drill two small holes through the splitter and the bottom of your front fascia in order to mount long screws or brackets. Google ACR Extreme Aero Front Splitter (or Youtube). If you look directly at the front you will see 2 very long screws. Each side of center line to the car. Will keep the middle from sagging too. These hold the center of the splitter sturdy about a foot apart and keeps it from flopping up and down while you drive. Air movement is unpredictable so better safe then sorry. Also the metal rakes (rods) that do mount each corner are not strong enough to secure the middle section of the splitter. Good Luck!

    It’s a very striking looking car, very nice, congratulations!

    The parts are not genuine MOPAR for your specific MY (2009), personally I would toss them. The car is built / engineered for such incredible performance it just seems wrong and potentially dangerous to use non factory designed and tested parts for such an important performance aspect. But you can order the correct factory ACR parts for your MY car that will function properly.

    Mine is an ‘04 so the pieces may be slightly different, but of the two front parts you show in the photo I believe the smaller one came with the car and should be mounted for proper performance.
