I'm noticing that there are several wear issues (possibly related to heat) only on the driver's side of my 98 GTS:

1. The driver's side front tire is significantly more worn than the passenger side tire. Brakes seem to wear about evenly.

2. Under hard breaking, the driver's side tire will lock up, Passenger side will not.

3. Driver's side sill gets yellow, Passenger side does not.

4. (The biggie) - All of the left 6-month-old spark plug wires are completely burned away on the bottom - Passenger side are fine.

I'm wondering if all of these issues are related, or possibly have separate causes? Any insight is appreciated.

Andy

P.S. - if anyone in the Seattle/Portland area has a set of spark plug wires I can buy on Monday (Labor Day), I'd really appreciate it.

Beside drawing air through the radiator, the cooling fan also
sends a good amount of air across the engine bay area. It is
offset to the drivers side, so that side gets most of this
secondary cooling. I have a manual hi-speed switch, and I've
noticed a cooling effect on the side sills from the fan after
I shut the motor off. This effect, is less, in your case, but
probably accounts for some of what you are seeing.

After seeing the temp reduction on the side sills from a running fan(with motor off), I'm surprised
that Sean hasn't used this as a selling point for his kit.
In my mind, as much heat is dissipated from this 'secondary'
cooling, as is from coolant temp lowering. The Viper design, with little insulation but open air channels, relies on moving
air for heat management, when the car is stopped with motor
shut down, the header and exhaust heat, are a major contributor
to heat soak (and heat exchange). Save your side sills, buy a Sean Roe fan kit!
