I have a set of newly rebuilt 40mm rear calipers with a blem! I'll sell them for the old price of $600. I bought a rebuilt Eagle Premier caliper just for the parts and got hosed. Anyway, if you are interested, send me an email or PM and I'll send the picture and/or description.

No idea what this is? Here's a little background.

Tom,

How would the balance be with the 13" Brembo 4 pistons I have up front. Currently, the fronts lock WAY premature to the rear.

TIA
Ben

Ben,

13" is 330mm which is stock, no? And the Brembos are also OEM? If so, the factory 36mm rear piston size is way too small and as you have found, the fronts lock first and often.

Enlarging the rear piston size from 36mm to 38mm duplicates the brake clamping balance of the StopTech front-only caliper kit. They decrease the size of the front pistons relative to the Brembo 4 piston caliper; mathematically the same balance by achieved with the stock front calipers and increasing the rear calipers to 38mm.

The 40mm version obviously goes another step towards more rear brake and in everyone's experience, provides a brake balance that feels like all four corners are finally each doing their fair share. You will also be more comfortable with pedal pressure, i.e. no more surprise that you pushed too hard and suddenly one wheel isn't rolling anymore. I can send you a few references of folks on this board that have them.

It's a modified version of the OEM caliper, so it's indistiguishable by external inspection, even with caliper removed. You can use it with any compatible Viper rear rotor, retain the OEM brake pad size and brake line fittings. It mounts with factory hardware in original location, so no cutting off any arms. Do I sound like a commercial?

Let me hijack my own thread and ask if anyone has OEM rear calipers for sale. Getting cores to work on is the big bottleneck - PM or email me with what you have and how much you want for them. Thanks.

Well, the big brake kit for the front on the car I purchased from Archer Racing. The Brembo caliper is 1/2 again as big as the OE, and really gives a poor braking balance since I have no ABS ('97). If you think this would give me a good balance, I'd give it a shot. What kind of blemish are you talking about on this one? Also, are they a powdercoated black finish? Not a big deal, as I have the ZAF covers on the rear.

TIA

Ben

FWIW, Here's a pic of the front brake setup on the car

Ben,
I won't answer for Tom but the increased clamping force you may now have up front (over stock) further exacerbates the imbalance already present on the car from the factory.

I am very pleased with the balance I have using Tom's 40 mm calipers on the rear (in combination with removing the rear prop. valve) but I have stock calipers up front.

What size pistons do you have up front now (I assume from what you've said that they are larger than stock)?

Ben, with the piston sizes (and quantity) and we can do some math and see what help the 40mm size provides. I can say that absolutely it will give more rear brake... just don't know the resulting balance.

They are not powdercoated.

The blemish is a chip off the edge of the piston lip under which the dust boot is held. It would not be an issue regarding performance nor sealing of the dust boot, and would be behind the brake pad so not visible. I can send you a picture.
