Hey Plum

Very observant... I didn't really consider that a particular vehicle may be the culprit. I'll take notice next time.

A little Googling yielded this...

Here is the Bright sun scenario...

The false laser alerts are caused by bright, repetitive reflections off the white painted road stripes at the center of the highway. It is also caused by bright reflections off the metal side rails along side the highway. This false noise does not occur very often and is caused by bright light reflections at a particular frequency.

..and the type of vehicle scenario...

Laser Falsing
It is unusual to get false laser warnings. Some cars and other electronics put out more RF interference than others and that interference may cause a false laser alert when certain devices are used. Although rare, using the horn, windshield wipers, or accelerating, can generate RF interference in some vehicles. Does it do the same thing in other cars/trucks? New cell phones, new cars with laser adaptive cruise control, and the wind-shear equipment at some major airports can also cause false laser alerts.

That Laser adaptive cruise control may be the problem...

Damn Nannies...

Hmmmm...I wonder if the adaptive cruise control in my wifes Sequoia would act as a laser scrambler to a cops laser gun?

Cheers,
George

I have a V1 as well and unlike most,I'm only luke warm on it. I get a lot of false alarms and have passed several cops and it never made a beep (I know they may have been shooting "instant on" and never turned it on..). I sent it in under warranty and they said it was working fine, but went ahead and reprogrammed it for me. It seemed to be a little better, but still not as good as I expected. I look at it as a Carfax report, its nice to have, but far from being a 100% guarantee to save you.

I have to agree with you on the V1. Maybe it's just the part of town that I normally drive, but the number of false alarms drove me crazy. I had the filter setting as high as it would go, but still got way too many false alarms. Like you, I sent the unit back to Valentine, but they said everything was working normally. They were very professional to deal with and gave me a full refund. Before the V1, I had always used Escorts which is what I still use today. They work great and have almost no false alarms.

Another vote for the Valentine 1, I threw my ****** out the window (literally) after getting a ticket for speeding on radar. I bought the V1 in 2001 and it's saved me dozens of times, not one ticket since. If you get one definately delete the "X" band and even the "K" band if you wish (I didn't do the "K" band because some local LAPD still use it). The "laser" and "Ka" are all that are used usually, the V1 website tells you how to do it. This will eliminate most false signals.

Trapster? You don't want to use trapster when riding a motorcycle. Also, it only tells you the "usual" places that cops camp out or some "Live Police" warnings. All data is user input.

Our FX has that "intelligent" CC and it does set off my V1. I really don't like the way the "intelligence" works, since it causes far more problems for me than it eliminates.

If my V1 goes off continually in mild traffic (where I can't pass), I usually look around for the Lexus/Infiniti in close proximity.
