I have the drive shaft off the car and plan to replace the U-joints. I have the snap rings out but the caps are in there pretty solid and I can't seem to break them loose. Is there any trick to getting them out or do I need to have them pressed out by a hydraulic press?

I just went through this. There's a couple of things you can try.
1) a pair of appropriately sized sockets (to act as receiver and driver) and a vise to press the joint.
2) A *large* drift (think steel rod) and sledge; you will need a vise to hold the driveshaft. (this is what worked for me).
3) Ball joint press (rent one for free from Autozone, etc.); works great with an impact wrench.

Be sure to use penetrating oil before trying any of the above; it will make things easier. I like Kroil and PB Blaster.
