rotten eggs

Well, put in a "test" pipe on each side in place of the cats...and it smells like rotten eggs when it sitting...will this go away as I get to higher RPM's or break in this new pipe? Please tell me so...

It shouldn't smell like eggs if you don't have cats. It should smell like unburnt fuel. It smells like eggs when you have cats.

Sulfur compounds in the gasoline burn and create a noticeable smell (mercaptans) similar to what is put in natural gas. The particular odorant is used because a very small amount is still extremely noticeable to the human olefactory system. It should change when you refill with another tank of gasoline.

The rotten eggs smell is usually a sign of a failed catalytic converter. We get it all the time with Mercedes. The thing is, I think my father said it can be from the cat being clogged. I'm not sure why. You might want to check the rest of the exhaust. I read about one particular bend that uses braided steel and the steel collapses internally and clogs the exhaust system. Just a thought.

optimistically speaking I am hoping that the next tank of gas will fix this...keep your fingers crossed.
