I have heard rumors that Bob Lutz and Tom Gale are putting an investor group together to buy Chrysler from Daimler. Wonder if Kirk($$$$)Kekorian is envolved?

I will have to find the article, but I recently read that these gentlemen were getting together on a supercar project ($500,000 per car). They were soliciting additional investors. It made NO mention of Chrysler, so this may just be a rumor based on the supercar project. I will try to find the article when I am back in town.

Daimler bought Chrysler during a high cycle and paid a bit more than some thought was wise. Since that time, reported losses, management shake-ups and the bad press that accompanies have certainly devalued the company (check the ticker).

Were Daimler to spin-off Chrysler at this point, they'd be grabbing the ankles in large way.

Additionally, Chrysler may actually be a tough sell right now because likely suitors may wait for recession (consumer confidence not currently at an all-time high) in anticipation of a full-on fire sale.

Meanwhile, Daimler might do well to bring Lutz and Gale back into the fold. Maintain and build upon what has become the Chrysler brand, which I think is a full range of uniquely styled cars and trucks. Maybe toss in a little Daimler engineering expertise and they'd have perhaps an even more attractive company to sell than the one they purchased.

I would love to see how many people would be willing to put up money to try and buy Chrysler back from the Germans. You say it can't be done, I say it could with the right leadership and at the RIGHT price. If they think Chrysler is in the tank the price should be reasonable.

It was my understanding that right after the "Merger" (yeah right

), that most of the publicly held stock was owned by American investors.
When the stock hit $108 per share they sold out and now it's owned by mostly European investors.

At least that's what I was told.
