I've had my '05 Copperhead for about 4 months now. I got a good deal on it because the exaust sills were missing. They had gotten stolen or what, I don't know. All I know is they needed replaced. So I replaced them with some fiberglass aftermarket ones at a fraction of the price of new ones. I even posted here asking a question about the quality of such aftermarket sills and feel the response was that they were fine.

OK, they look great on the car and every thing seems fine. Today was a nice day and I decided to take the car out and open it up for the first time. After a short run I start to smell something. So I pulled over and my driver's side sill has a little smoke coming out of the side vent toward the front and it is unbelievably hot all over. The paint had blistered a little at the bottom and I was afraid it was on fire. But I guess it wasn't, Not yet any way. Those sills are suppose to be fire proof.

I checked the passanger side and it was relatively cool to the touch.

Any idea on why the difference? Both sides have the factory heat insulation. Now I'm afraid to drive it. What should I do?

Yes - the Gen 3 does have heat shields:

The factory side sills are ALUMINUM for a REASON.

I had wondered how the magazines showed how you could fry an egg on the side sills. When I put in cruise control it all made sense.

I wouldn't ride in an SRT-10 with fiberglass or any polymer side sills.

Good Luck....
