I went to an autox practice a month ago & had a blast, so I went to an SCCA event Sunday evening, it too was a blast, here are the results for my class, they put the viper in ASP - which many of the guys there said was unfair for the viper. I have to say, those ASP cars looked quite modified and aggressive. Here are the numbers:

A Street Prepared
1. 229 David L. 94 Blue Mazda RX-7 46.604 45.019 44.593
2. 209 Robert L. 94 Blue Mazda RX7 49.123(1) 45.505 51.655(3)
3. 113 Lloyd C. 73 Black Lotus Europa 48.876 47.793 46.855
4. 409 Richard G. 72 Green Caterham 7 O.C. 47.014 54.416
5. 417 Jeff K. 1997 Green BMW Z3 47.337 47.931(1) 52.703(3)
6. 312 Sam Y. 1997 Black Porsche RS America PCA O.C. O.C. 47.402
7. 509 David Affeldt (N) 00 Black Viper 48.875 O.C. 47.702

The (N) means novice for me. I ended up right where I thought, in last place. The national racers said they were impressed with my numbers, they had seen vipers in the past & they tend not to do well on these courses & I was running "competitively".

This only my second time in the cones, first real competition so I have volumes to learn. But, any tips specific to the viper are welcome! I was doing my best on the basics, looking ahead, brake early, throttle thru turns, trying to be smooth. I could sure use ABS out there, working the brakes is the most challenging thing for me right now.

Thanks for any input,

Dave.

Call Luke at the TireRack and get a set of Hoosiers - get the RoadRace compound not the Autocross compound. That way you can have a dual purpose usage, and with the Snake's torque the R compound will get plenty warm. There are a minimum of 2 seconds to be gained right there, and then those other driver's will really be shocked.

Dave -

GREAT job! I did my second autocross this spring (due for another in two weeks) and won my class: There was only one car in the ASP class - me! On an overall basis I was nine seconds off the lead car, which happened to be a prepared Z06. The guy driving the Z06 was a super nice guy and rode with me to give me some pointers. Of course, I can't remember any of them ("keep the shiny side up" comes to mind). I am very impressed that you were within four seconds of the lead car!

Keep us posted as you develop your times and be sure to bug that Pemberton guy for some more pointers. He is VERY good at AX!

Holy Cow, check with Jon, because if he can get you a set of 4 for $600 that would be a bargain!!! With your times already competitive, that will be your next purchase.
