The frequency that these things operate on are probably generated by some little LCR tank circuit. The bandwidth that the other circuitry can operate on is probably pretty small. It is also set by the FCC. The bandwidth is usually set in a range that is used by a wide variety of other electronic tranceivers that can step on your signal. So I guess the easy answer is no, you can't change the frequency because no matter where you go within the frequency range that the device will operate, someone will still step on you. Even if you could go beyond that range, you start to enter illegal activity. If you try to power it up to over step others, you also enter illegal activity.

Seems to me that '97 alarm modules are a problem...many have had theirs replaced IF it is acting up. Check with your dealer on TSB for the problem.
