Thanks to three divorces and a doctor buying a practice I have been bumped up to receive one of Bill Pembertons 06 coupes vin# ****V100379(can you believe Viper owners have a high rate divorce?) anyway.. I have driven one of the first Ford GTs ever built and am afraid that after driving the GT I will be disappointed with the Vipers acceleration 0 to 120. I have never driven a Gen 3 Viper. Has anyone out there driven both cars? Should I have a Paxton installed while it is at Woodhouse? Any other upgrades I should consider (exhaust etc) ?

If you are wondering why I didn't buy a GT. Although it was a religious experience to drive, the Viper coupe is more my style and price range. (No offense to Jay Leno)

Ok, now add 200 hp to that "religious" experience, and you get the "GODLY" experience...Supercharged coupe :2tu:

IMHO, a GENIII COUPE with forced induction (SC or TT) will blow away a GT. BTW, Jay Leno owned a VIPER before he got the GT and I would not be a bit surprised if gets a GENIII COUPE. As far as VIPER owners having a high divorce rate, my wife and I(first and only marriage) are celebrating our 25th anniversary in September. Guess that is why I also still own my first and only VIPER! Still in love with both! :D

Keith, just say yes to the Paxton option...
A *blown* Viper with 750hp and the GT will just be a figment of your imagination.
Go for it! :2tu:

Yes...Go for the Big Dog...

Contact Bill Pemberton, and see if they can install it prior to delivery. Discuss with him the other options, such as exhaust, and congratulations of being one of the first to receive this fantastic car.

This past weekend had the pleasure to visit CAAP, ASC(paint the Viper body panels), Rousch(assemble the Viper CC), and Saleen(assemble the Ford GT rolling chassis and body, motor installed by Ford), . Many GT's in process and many returned for various process flaws, suspect this is pretty typical for hand assembled cars. Like the Silver GT the best(saw White/blue, Blue, Blue/white, yellow, grey, silver, silver/black, black, ?) and they look like pretty nice sports cars built by a company that loves performance cars.

That said I would buy the SRT10 coupe because: First I must confess to be a Viperholic. But to balance that out, I like performance and my wife likes the Ford GT looks which means I could buy a GT with 100% approval. The Viper is truly a work of love by workers who love what they do and take pride in the end product. We saw the body panels being polished to perfection by the ACS employees who were proud of their work. When your Viper is delivered to the dealer it is likely as perfect as possible. If it has flaws they are most likely due to dealership induced damage. Suggest that anyone buying a Viper take delivery when it arrives without letting the dealership touch the paint.

Regarding performance, the jury is still out. I expect the GT to have some advantage due to its weight advantage, but expect that to be somewhat offset by the Vipers better braking and broad power range.

These cars are so close in performance that the outcome of any race is likely more representative of the driver than the car.

The GT has a couple short comings one it is missing two Big Holes and there is this funny looking Blue/Black emblem on the front. And that sticker is about 70,000 with dealers adding huge mark-ups.

The Viper Coupe will be a great performance car for the money, hand proudly made by American Car lovers for car lovers.

No need to install a Paxton, just take a few driving lessions, to master the Snake's Ten Big Holes, should be enough to handle the GT.

I came upon a Ford GT during the Woodward cruise. From around 40 mph he took off at WOT several times. Not very impressive. Never any hint of tire noise and the exhaust was pretty pathetic.

None the less I showed him what a supercharged V10 could do (for those of you that have one you know 40 mph is massive wheel spin territory, if that is what you want to do), so I showed him how to spin the tires from 40 to about 80 or 90 - 2nd and 3rd gears (had to shut down quickly as there were police everywhere).

It was a company car so it was probably an engineer or something. Bet he was surprised.

Do the Paxton. You won't be sorry.

With traction, you will be able to waste most anything going, especially from any kind of roll, more so as the speed increases.

I'd add headers and exhaust too. That should do you.

DSR207,

I picked up a set of Pilot Sport Cups for this weekend's track events. I had hoped they would be stickier for the street. Tried them out last night. Nope, they still fry at 30, 40, 50, etc. No clutch dump, just throttle, as you Paxton guys know.

Back to the Nitto drag radials right after the event.

I have the same traction issues as well. :D

My SRT has been stock, except for K&N, since I bought it last September - until last month, when I had Velocity install the Paxton, 3.55 gears, Autoform rollbar, Corsa track, and Quaife LSD. Talk about a wake-up call!! The extra power, quicker gears (and more usable 5th and 6th), and straight tracking Quaife made a great car even better. The car was a beast before, but now it manufactures adrenalin. My next mod is........er, oh, about your purchase..

As I understand, Woodhouse installs the Paxton and provides complete warranty. My next Viper will probably come from Woodhouse, delivered with Paxton, Quaife, 3.55s, and Motons. If it's in your budget, consider that package, or at least the Paxton, since Woodhouse will still provide all warranty, and add other goodies later.

Having offered these thoughts, if you choose to purchase the Viper stock, you will still have a grin ear to ear while driving your new beast. When you do add mods, and you will, it will be like having a new car again. Good luck - you can't go wrong with the Viper in whatever form you choose. I should have bought mine long ago.

Just do it!!! Just make sure the tires are warm with the Paxton or you will be in the weeds!! You gotta love it! By the way stick with the stock exhaust. Or Balanger headers and cross over or cats. Side exits with headers and no cats with stage 4 ported heads will make you deaf.
