My GTS started back firing, very slightly. It will do it when I’m taking off real slow, like backing into my garage with a slight incline, just using the clutch. From inside the car it sounds to me like something is popping in the back end, but my wife said from outside it sounds like a slight back fire. I haven't got a check engine lights coming on and the engine is basicly stock with 35k miles on it.

Other than that it runs great. Anybody ever have this problem? I'm trying to get it running right for the Homestead track this weekend.

More often than you would think.
Stock wires should be changed by now if you have 35K on the beast. Go to some MSD's 8.5mm or similar. The downside is you will get some static on your stock stereo system. But much better wires for performance and durability.
Do the plugs every year if you drive the car enough and by the miles you have on your '99 or newer, you put the miles on.

Do not use the MSD's. Use Magnecor wires. Go to Magnecor's web site at www.magnecor.com and read. Their website is full of useful, and honest, information. Magnecor wires have the best EMI and RF suppression available. Read for yourself and make up your own mind. Also, note the following emailed me from a fellow Viper owner:

"The manual says that even routing the plug wires incorrectly could induce static in the radio. The manual says, and I quote "Failure to route the cables properly could cause the radio to reproduce ignition noise, cross ignition of the spark plugs or short circuit the cables to ground."

The wires make sense and they would be an easy fix if they have gone bad. But I’m surprised my check engine light isn’t coming on. Glad, but surprised.
Thanks I’ll look into those after market wires change them out and report back.

The check engine light only comes on for pollution issues, there may be a soft code (hidden) that has been set. Have someone with a scan tool check for the code.
