I posted this on Thread without a subject, but it was just too weird and I had to post it here too.

I GOT STOPPED FOR SPEEDING YESTERDAY. ....

I THOUGHT
I COULD TALK

MY WAY OUT OF IT

UNTIL THE COP LOOKED AT

MY DOG IN THE BACK SEAT

You must be registered for see images

Totally weird thing is that I recieved this email a couple hours after receiving a letter from our Government insurance company (ICBC) stating that a ticket I received in April is now cancelled :) :) :)

I was going 140kph/85mph in a 100kph zone in the middle of the bush. No traffic and I was not impressed to get a ticket.

Last time I was in Vancouver the traffic in the outskirts/suburbs was going 145kph and was bumper to bumper traffic??? Heavy traffic at high speed is dangerous unless its a race. Take all those idiotic drivers in Minivans and SUVs, not to mention the Pisspots (OK to write that?) with mini-brakes and tires and have them all going 85mph? Makes me wanna go down the side roads.

But a 3 cars per hour (sometimes) traffic is where I have received my last 3 tickets. Don't seem to have any cops on the main highways - just my little highway ... and Washington State. In Washington they have radar every couple miles after 10pm. Radar is about 25 miles between during daytime and rush hour. Anyone else think some Gov reps are totally ********? Our last "Public Safety Minister" had to step down because while he was on a big "Stop Speeding Campaign" because he lost HIS Driving license for getting his THIRD EXCESSIVE SPEEDING ticket. LOL, must be a little Justice in the world haha, maybe KARMA!

Huh? You're insurance company cancelled your speeding ticket?

Is ICBC so corrupt that it can decide guilt or innocence in legal matters?

Amazing.

We currently have a ******* for a Premier in Alberta and it wouldn't surprise me if he created a socialist insurance company like ICBC for our provice. One can only hope that there's a leadership change in the party before he does any more damage to our province. I know that vehicle insurance is on his radar so I'm hoping that he get's kicked out before he can implement anything.

Yup. We pay the big bucks for insurance. What really ***** is there is no discount after the first car. We have 5 insurance policies and pay the full price (with a 46% discount) on all of them. With the safe driver's discount our insurance is about 30% more than normal. But ... ICBC did buy out one of the best (fincial) shopping malls and turn it into a University and built a Dormotory Tower rising out of the middle of it.

Another big hit is the 10% SS/Provincial tax whenever you register a car. That would have been 10% plus another $3,000 "Luxury Tax" or something like that -to buy your Viper. Yayy Liberals. Gave us another 3% "Carbon Tax" on fuel July 1st.

Guess there's a couple Ministers getting Government Coruuption Charges from the sale of BC Rail. News said that Premier Campbell has been ordered to provide his emails to the court. Campbell seems to give things away to his buddies and big corporations, but he's stealing it from the people.

That's a funny picture no doubt.

I doubt oue illustrious leader will get the boot here before he's done ruining things. Seems the PCs are all powerful here in Alberta. Does everyone vote PC cause their parents did?

My areas MLA just got booted out of the PC party for speaking out about the need for a seniors care facility here. Unbelievable, it does seem as though the PC machine is unstoppable.

As an aside, the guy never once got my vote, but he will now as an independant.

Yah, a Liberal MLA got booted because he disagreed with the Native/Aboriginal 'definition' here. We just got a Liberal MLA in my area a couple months ago. First thing she did was post bogus email and phone numbers. Finally got a phone # from internt that worked and had her Legislature 'boy' get her to call me. Liberals don't want to pay small business and rip them off (me) so after sending her several emails showing how badly we're paid - she told me that "she's investigating". In other words, she's not gonna risk her job/position to stick up for small business and we'll continue without a raise for another 40 years! Liberals=Thieves?

I bought a new portable GPS radar detector this year. It has red light and speed cameras programmed into its memory and gives warnings of cable triggered radar units all over North America. Unfortunately, the Custom Instal is about $1500 jobber so I'll just leave the 8500 SRX in my Viper and use the GPS as well if I head to the states (or Alta?). BC made it illegal for speed cameras (so far).

Here's a little irony - I get a royalty from an anti photo radar licence plate cover manufacturer that's located in B.C.

They ship worldwide but manufacture the plates in a place that has banned photo radar. I'm pretty sure that they used to have it though.

The manufacturer has been very generous over the years. I helped them get started and they've been sending me a royalty ever since. Great folks.

Alberta is getting flooded with photo radar but no one has it as bad as Ontario. They have it real bad..... 50km over and they impound your car. Period.

Next election I'm voting for the Alberta Alliance. True Conservatives - especially fiscal. Maybe they won't NEED the traffic ticket money!

Maybe this is one of their plate covers I got on this stealth R/T TT from california?

These products were tested on "Mythbusters" and they found that the billion dollar camera equipment shines right through the covers and gets the pic irregardless.

Sure stops my built in flash though.

I also saw the MythBusters episode. It was fun!

I have no opinion on whether the devices work or they don't work but I do know this. If it works even one time it's more than paid for itself. I think that even someone that doesn't think they work would agree that there's at least a chance it could prevent a ticket.

I know that radar detectors aren't 100% either - but they don't have to be. It just has to work once to pay for itself. If it works twice you're ahead.

Cost of tickets vs. cost of radar detectors ...

My new ****** GPS 9500 was $525. plus GST & PST or about $600. SRX I installed in my GTS was $800 ($1500 retail installed). I wrote the stereo shop into a magazine article and now I get a healthy discount there.

Tickets are costing me $138. (provided you pay within 2 weeks). In BC we get points and letters stating that we're bad drivers at 6 points/2 tickets. (Not sure what planet they're from but I don't drink or do drugs so I think I'm a great driver just because of those reasons - that I have very few accidents and driven well over 1.5 million miles also count towards my driving abilities. Tickets are just more taxes and don't reflect driving abilities as my daughter and wife have only 1 ticket each. They have never pulled a trailer, driven a street bike, Tractor trailer etc. so their abilities aren't much - even though they don't have many tickets.)

A decade ago the Provincial Government got tired of being called 'greedy' because of the high ticket revenues they were collecting so they granted the "Regional Districts" the monies.

A few years ago the Provincial Government regretted giving away all that money so they re-instituted "Driver's Penalty Points" and now we pay when we get the ticket, then if we have more than 1 ticket we get to pay for the Driver's Penalties Points which are much higher to cover the free once ticket per year. Last year I paid $400 for two tickets.

So ... if you have two tickets the second ticket costs you $400 plus the $138 originally ... and another $30 or so if you don't pay immediately.

Washington has gone completely ga-ga over photo radar. First, it was just red-light cameras in Seattle. Now, it's both red-light and speeding cameras in cities all around Puget Sound, and even on I-5 south of Olympia (in the big construction zone). Between that and doubling the fines in anything remotely resembling a construction zone (people need not be present, just the definition!), and ticket revenue is zooming!

I've been looking at the Passport 9500ci as a step above the normal 9500i, but I'm not familiar with the SRX that you mentioned. How does it compare? The 9500ci retails for about $1800 USD, but you can buy it on e-Bay for about $1050 USD. Professional installation is recommended because of all the parts 'n pieces (7+), and that goes for about $1500 more around here.

The big cost here is if you get 3 or 4 points on your license (1-3 tickets, depending on the ticket), your insurance cost will jump about 25% or more for the next 3 years, which is how long it takes for those tickets to rotate off. Get more than 4 points, and you're probably going to get your license suspended. Then your cost sky-rockets! Insurance could double or triple for 5 years.

Luckily, most of the photo cameras here are classified like a parking ticket rather than a moving violation, so no points - just big fines: $250 USD and up. But not necessarily all of them. And who knows how long that will continue? 3 years ago, we didn't have any photo cameras - now we have literally hundreds!

Makes a $3300 radar/laser/photo camera detector seem like a bargain!

The SRX is last years 8500 unit. Same as the 9500ci except no GPS. The SR7 means no laser "shifting" capabilities like the SRX and the 9500ci do. The 'shifting' gives you a few seconds to slow down before the Laser gun gets a reading.

The 9500ci is built in and I had to make a bracket to instal the radar and the laser shifter into the Viper's grille. but other than it took me 6 hours to instal it was pretty straight forward and not very complicated. I decided to keep the SRX because we don't have photo cameras in BC so the GPS is useless here. The 9500 windshield mount is relatively cheap at about $500 and I use that in all my other cars/trucks.

Driving to the Harrison Hot springs weekend I hit 3 mobile radar units. They were all using deadman switches and I, of course, was at the front of any cars. I was going 84mph, 71mph and 72mph. anything over 68mph is risking a ticket. 84 should have caused the cop to turn around and grab me. All three oncoming cops ignored me. Thank you.

On the way home, I got 'dinged' again 3 more times on the way home. Again no interest in giving me a ticket. when I mentioned it to my cousin he said that it was because the cops were HIS neighbors and they knew me through him!!! Wow! Thanks again. My small town cops don't bother me (as I support them?) and now my cousin's cops are nice to me too?

I'm impressed, and lovin' it!
