is it a good idea to do timing chain replacement when doing cam upgrade?

also; cam upgrade; is it better to have engine out of car for this job?

REPLACEMENT DEPENDS ON THE MILES ON THE CAR AND HOW HARD THOSE MILES WERE.
ENGINE REMOVAL DOES NOT MAKE LIFE ANY EASIER BECAUSE TO REMOVE THE ENGINE OR THE CAM SHAFT YOU HAVE TO REMOVE OR REPOSITION THE CONDENSOR AND REMOVE FOR SURE THE RADIATOR. JUST TAKE THE HOOD OFF FOR SANITY SAKE AND DO IT IN CAR.
BE VERY CAREFUL DURING RE-INSTALL AS THAT IS A VERY LONNNNNG CAM AND A LITTLE
OOPS CAN BE DISASTROUS TO THE CAM BEARINGS USE PLENTY OF ASSEMBLEY LUBE AND TAKE YOUR TIME, REMEMBER HEADS COME OFF ALSO TO GET AT LIFTERS, DON'T GET AHEAD OF YOURSELF

Mojo - you do not need to r&r the engine to do the cam. Been there done that....several times.

YES CAM BEARINGS, YOU KNOW THOSE PESKY LITTLE THINGS THAT KEEP THE CAM FROM MAKING EVEN LARGER HOLES IN THE BLOCK WHERE THE CAM GOES. THEY ARE A SOMEWHAT SOFT BABBIT TYPE MATERIAL THAT DOES NOT LIKE BEING NICKED OR GOUGED, WHICH SAYS NOTHING ABOUT WHAT THEY CAN DO TO A NICELY POLISHED SURFACE LIKE SAY, A CAM SHAFT!!!!!!!!!!

V10 MOJO, I BELIEVE WE MET AT TOOOFST'S DRAG DAY EVENT AT UNION GROVE, WI. I WAS THE ONE FIXING THE NOS TROUBLE HE HAD WITH HIS SWITCHES AND SWAPPING SLICKS AND SKINNIES. HOPE YOU HAD A GOOD TIME AT "*******" THAT EVENING, NO SUCH THING AS TOO MANY HOT WINGS AND SHRIMP. ANY OTHER ?S GIVE ME A SHOUT HERE ON THE BOARDS OR AT THE DEALERSHIP.

lol....what do the cam bearings look like in a viper motor lol. how much to replace them cam bearings and what is the part number?

I thought the V10 camshaft rode on the aluminum of the block, and there are no actual camshaft bearing. Experts, please chime in.....

There are no camshaft bearings that I recall.

Replacement is a must as you cannot properly dial in(degree) an aftermarket cam with the stock chain/gears without machining them.Invest in a cloyes adjustable to do the job correctly and there are NO cam bearings in a viper motor

ok... Tommygun. I do not mean to offend, but there are NO cam bearings in the Viper engine

OK, I SIT CORRECTED, HOWEVER, EVEN THOUGH IT DOES NOT HAVE REPLACEABLE CAM BEARINGS AND THEREBY NOT ANOTHER MATERIAL. MAYHAPS YOU COULD CONSIDER THE CONSEQUENCES OF DAMAGING THE BEARING SURFACE FOR THE CAM, WHICH WE NOW AGREE IS PART AND PARCEL OF THE BLOCK. THIS WOULD MEAN, DRAMATIC PAUSE, YOU JUST ROACHED THE BLOCK. YES I/WE HAVE DONE A FEW CAMS OURSELVES AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY TROUBLE BECAUSE WE WERE CAREFUL. DMC OFFERS OVERSIZE CAMS WHICH IS TO ALLOW FOR PRODUCTION TOLERANCES AND FOR THE OCCASIONAL OOPS.

WITH REGARD TO "CAPS", I FIND IT FASTER TO TYPE IN EITHER FULL CAPS or full lower case, usually i amd trying to type here at work in between customers and tech's sorry if IT OFFENDS.
