Howdy all,
Well the engine is out of the car to deal with a bent valve and so I'd like to put a cam in it while I have the engine out. The consensus on here seems to be get the heads ported while they're off, I get it, but I don't have another $4k to toss at the build and honestly don't really need the power. So that said aside from the Twister thread (on a Gen III), any cam-only builds to speak of on here? There are Comp Cams standard cuts for the Xtreme Energy 218/224 and 212/218 available from Speedway motors which look fairly mild, barely above a 708, which might be worth doing. The car is just going to be a weekend cruiser, not looking to go racing in it or anything, so a slightly lumpy idle is fine, but nothing obnoxious. I'll be tuning it myself via HPTuners. Anyone done a similar build? Anyone?

Thanks,
Tony

Beware - if you have a Gen 2, the earlier heads had some pretty noteworthy casting shift leading to thin port walls and water leaks with not much grinding work. It's advisable to talk to a reputable porter who has experience with Viper heads.

Give Havik Performance a call. They have some awesome cam’s. If I was in your shoes, I’d either do heads and cam or not bother doing just the cam. But hey it’s your money. Truthfully it wouldn’t even be a thought for me, I’d throw the port and polish costs on a card if I didn’t have the money at the time and just pay it off as I could. But that’s just me. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Somebody can probably find the video, but a guy did a really nice YouTube of ECU tuning improvements on his gray/silver creampuff. I think he picked up 30-some HP with just basic mods?

If you're going to do a cam and not want to do heads, don't waste your money on a cam other than a 708. Maybe add some Gen 3 rockers(I am selling a set). The Gen 1 heads ****, but I made them better:

If you have a Gen 2, I also do CnC heads for them too. You will thank yourself later for doing it vs. just adding a cam. Heads are the bottle neck on these cars.
