When did they add a 13th month?

I KNEW I shouldn't have let Rip VanWinkle make me a drink!

Why do people wreck their Vipers... if you are gonna wreck it just give it to me... I love them and will care for them forever!

On a serious note... stay safe in these beasts. Prayers go out for the family.

He went off the road for no reason. Probably fell asleep at the wheel. Poor guy!

How can you possibly fall asleep at the wheel of a Viper? It's like saying you fell asleep in bed with Carmen Elektra before you got down to business.

Poor guy indeed! Have we found out if it's anyone we know?

I never put too much stock in what reporters say about accident cause. They may be interpreting "no other cars appear to be involved" as "no apparent reason" when really the guy was doing 100 around a turn that could only be taken at 75 and just understeered right off the road.

Anyway, condolences to his family. That's an unfortunate way to end the year. Hope the Viper wasn't a Christmas present or something.

I used to think that to but it is indeed possible. I have driven on one or two occassions where I wanted to fall asleep while driving the car but I immediately pulled over for a while and got something to drink that would keep me up.

I've had many 10+ hour drives in Vipers, including into the wee hours in the morning, and just like any other car, you could fall asleep under those conditions. It's not like you are going 150 MPH at all times driving these cars.

Many years ago, when I was young and stupid, I fell asleep in a rental car. It was an 8-hour drive after a 60-hour work week and the news of a demise in the family. I was going to the funeral. So I was sad, worn down and stressed.

So I'm sleeping and I wake up to the sound of somebody knocking on my door. That somebody was an 18-wheeler truck travelling in the adjacent lane at 65mph! Took me about 5 seconds (read very long time) to realize that the knocking sound was me repeatedly hitting that truck from the side. Damn nearly created my own funeral!

Now I'm old and stupid, but I've never driven long distances under exhaustion.

P.S. The rental agency was pretty unhappy with the car. AMEX footed the bill.
