HELP!!

ANYONE ELSE HAVE CONSTANT OVERHEATING ISSUES WITH A GEN II??

MY 2001 RT-10 ALWAYS OVERHEATS (245+DEGREES) 3/4 ON THE GAUGE OR HIGHER WHEN IT IS OVER 70 DEGREES AMBIENT OR IF I DRIVE THE CAR EVEN SLIGHTLY AGGRESSIVELY. THE CAR HAS HAD 3 NEW WATER PUMPS AND BOTH A LARGER RADIATOR AND A 180 DEGREE THERMOSTAT INSTALLED BUT IT STILL RUNS VERY HOT..

THE SENDER AND GAUGE HAVE BEEN REPLACED... THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN BURPED 10 TIMES..

THE MOTOR WAS REBUILT BY ARROW (UNDER WARRANTY)..WHEN IT CAME BACK IT STILL RUNS VERY HOT!..

ANY INPUT OR EXPERIENCES APPRECIATED...

Have your waterpump checked. I remember this year had a problem with the impeller.

If everything outside of the block has been checked it's probably something inside. Blocked or restricted water passage?

I say impeller too, but then again, would it STILL have that problem after 3 new water pumps  ?

What about your fluid levels in your surrogate tank (the one with the radiator cap) and the facia bottle?

Not me.I have a late 01.Only time it starts to heat up is sitting in traffic. When the fan comes on it drops right down.Something is really not right.Drive it till it heats up.Stick your hand on the radiator. If its not hot there's no circulation be it vapor lock, thermostat or pump.If the rads hot its a timing or other internal engine problem.I put the ac on during the last few miles home to keep the fans running for cool down.In a pinch you can turn the heater up full blast.Something is being missed.Good luck, Bruce

Re: VIPER OVERHEATS! ANYONE ELSE HAVE OVERHEATING PROBLEMS? HOW TO FIX?

My 1997 GTS ran hot. I had problems in parades and in 1st – 3rd gears driving slowly. (Under 35 mph) I made these changes till finally the last one fixed it:

1) Burp system (many times) (Bought special funnel that connects to fill tank)
2) New radiator cap (with sacrificial anode)
3) 180 degree thermostat
4) Drilled 3/32 hole in thermostat to let air pass when not open
5) Check for vacuum leaks (replace intake gaskets with latest ones)
6) Did leak down test on cooling system
7) Had cooling system checked for combustion gasses
8) New stock water pump
9) Flushed cooling system 2 times and ran 30% mix of antifreeze (green stuff)
10) Add water wetter
11) Fluidyne radiator
12) Checked fan operation
13) Replace fan with 1999+ model
14) Roe radiator hoses
15) Replaced radiator cap again (with sacrificial anode, anode ½ corroded away)
16) Added vented cowl
17) Replaced engine temp sensor
18) Replaced all engine sensors (Air, MAP, TPS, O2’s, crank)
19) New archer water pump (no cavitation & aluminum impeller)
20) New pulleys (overdrive)
21) Tried new performance PCM
22) VEC 2
23) Took off front fascia & cleaned radiators & checked puke bottle & connections
24) Replaced radiator cap again (with 2001+ model)

Conclusion: my 1st radiator cap was bad, radiator caps 2 & 3 were cheep caps that couldn’t be easily tested because of the attached sacrificial zinc anode… these were also bad. The new style 2001+ cap fixed my problem. Bad caps were sending water to my puke tank, but drawing back in air. With all the upgrades my car cools great. Hope this gives you ideas for things to check.

BILLS,

THE CAR IS A 2001 SO IT ALREADY HAS MANY OF THE UPGRADES (FANS,CAP ECT) PLUS I INSTALLED A LARGER RADIATOR AND 180 THERMOSTAT..I ALSO TRIED 2 NEW PCM UNITS AND WATER WETTER..THE CAR RUNS HOT AT SPEED 50- 70MPH OR EVEN FASTER NOT WHEN IN TRAFFIC...

Exec , didn't you post this problem about 5 months ago?? I can't beleive that your Overheating issue is still a mystery ..Drop your car off at WCV and let Horton take a look at it.

What a bummer

Yes the bleeder valve is important but might not fix the issue in the present case. On the new Supercharged Volvos this is a standard feature.
