I have had my viper for about a month now and I took it in to have a couple of warranty items done nothing major. They give me a list of things they found and said the car had been in an accident but the car fax came up clean. Is the dealer required to tell you if the car has been wrecked? Is there anything I can do. All the sudden I am feeling like I got screwed.

That's too bad! I know the feeling. CAR FAX IS USELESS!!!!

If the previous owner knew it was wrecked and told you it wasn't and they knowingly sold you the car, then yes...

It happened to me. I had to prove that the dealer I bought my 1st viper from knew it was wreck. They ended up settling out of court, but I feel I got screwed again by the attorney I used. I did all the detective work and he did nothing. stinking lawyers!

I ended up selling the car and with the settlement, I ended up making more money on the car all together.

Gotta get underneath a Viper (any car!) and look for overspray, frame repair, anything out of the ordinary before you buy it.

These cars get hurt pretty fast, especially the front frames. and of course the body will crack easy. I bought my car as a wreck and during the rebuilding process found that it had been painted (4) times on the passenger side. The car is now 50LBS lighter on that side. Hopefully some one can help you sort this out. I would think that a dealer that has knowledge should report it to you....I have traded in a car and they were only required to ask if the car was in a "major" accident. I said what does that mean... and the response was "was any glass broken?" Vipers can get banged pretty hard without breaking glass. Good luck

i dont think they are required to tell you unless it is a salvage title. Also if a car owner pays for the repair(out of pocket ie: no insurance claim) it more than likely will not show up on car fax either

Car Fax is NOT a legal documentation of a cars history. It is basically useless. The dealer, if they are a stand-up dealer should take the car back and replace it or refund your money. However, that is not usually going to happen. Listen to Ab. It is a long road to go after a dealer with a Scumbag...er I mean an attorney. They do not care about you any more than the dealer does.

"Bill, bill, bill, settle." That is the Lawyers motto.

Carfax is helpful if the car had a major accident which means it was declared a wreck. However as long as the title is clean there is no trace on Carfax. I have seen a car in Canada which was declared wreck in the States but had a clean title in Quebec. Another story: I had a Dodge Stealth its front rigth side was entirely replaced including front air ag and this work never showed up on Carfax.

Personnaly I trust carfax. It was very useful when I shopped for my Viper. 7 out of 10 Viper that I visited had a strange story .... I have seen a Viper that changed owner every 6 month. Without carfax I wouldn't be able to know. Also the history (miles on the car) on Carfax should much history on Dodge computer at your dealer. Basically the combination of these two resources should give a very good idea on the history of a car.

Most important:
NO MATTER ALWAYS HAVE AN EXPECTION BY A THIRD PARTY ON THE CAR THAT YOU WANT TO BUY
NO MATTER ALWAYS TEST DRIVE THE CAR.
