What is that hook under rear decklid on RT/10\'s??

What is that hook right next to the latch assembly on my 98 RT/10?? It is a little black hook that has 2 rivits in it. I have no idea what it is for. Anyone know??

my guess is for a tie down for the deck lid if you can't close it all the way. I guess you could use it in conjunction with the strap that is used to secure the soft top.

That hook is actually used to secure the soft top in the trunk. There is a strap the goes from the back of the truck, across the top, and latches to that hook.

You can see it in action in the factory demo tape. Check behind your driver's seat, in the pocket back there, to see if the tape is still there. I am the third owner of my 1998 rt/10 and it was still there. Good luck.

How could you secure the top securing strap to the loop that is ON the inside of trunk LID?

Maybe that is the one to hold the lid down when you get a flat & can't close the lid b/c the tire does not fit all the way in the trunk??

I bet you are right about the flat tire. It would be impossible to latch the top down with the trunk closed. Thanks again for the input.

It works with the spare tire as rear end collision protection.

You're right. I didn't realize that the loop was ON the lid. I was thinking of the loop in the trunk to secure the soft top.
