A new Viper depending on how good of a price you get will set you back from the high 60's to low 70's. In about 3-4 years it will be worth about 50 depending on the economy at that time and the availability of used Vipers. If you keep the car for three years therefore it will cost you roughly

70,000
- 50,000
______
20,000

Divide that by 36 months.

555

Figure in interest

60,000 * 7.0 / 1200 = 350

Resulting in $905 a month to own the Viper.

Since most financial people are probably not going to believe the residual value of the Viper or are not going to trust the economy to support such resale value, in order to keep you from being substantially upside down you're probably going to have to pay about 100 to 200 more a month depending on how long of a term you want on your loan.

If you're looking to eventually pay it off then

each 10K is going to cost you this much depending on the length of the loan in months and an interest rate of 6.5.

10000 24 ($445.46)
10000 36 ($306.49)
10000 48 ($237.15)
10000 60 ($195.66)
10000 72 ($168.10)
10000 84 ($148.49)
10000 96 ($133.86)
10000 108 ($122.55)
10000 120 ($113.55)

Obviously three years ago had I paid the Viper off and not had my money in stocks I would have been financially better off. If I would have looked at my situation one year ago it would have been the other way around.

Good luck

They saw me coming! Wanted a 2001 Sapphire blue rt/10. Called 50 dealerships before I found one coming to a dealer in 2 months. End result I could not bargain an inch. 70k base price , hard top 2.5k tonneau cover 250 gas guzzler tax 3k destination 775,
extended warranty 2.5k, lojack 500 , luxury tax 1.5k? , sales tax 8.7k....got as long a loan as possible 66 months at 9.25% put 25k down end result $$$ 1,152/month payments. This use to be a house payment 20 years ago. The way I figure it though, I have received over 200 smiles and cheers from people in the first 2 months of ownership. That equals about $500/possitive comment. By the end of the year that will be down to $50/possitive comment. After a few years???? Maybe 50 cents/comment..

Don't forget to add insurance and upkeep. So what another $200 to $300 per month you are at about $1400 a month.

billdoon,
I too paid cash and too am far from wealth just worked 5 yrs of A$$ breaking overtime to make my dream happen. and i figure it cost me $80k with all the taxes and minor mods.
but Bill from Woodchuck did point me in the right direction, he even pointed out to fight the DMV over taxing the luxury and gas guzzler tax. and sure enough they did back down...
so if i do ever have to sell her (have 2 children under 3yrs) for a new home or something else we need... i will hopefully break even when the demand goes up for our cars once the gen 3 start production. And i will always have the wonderful memories of Viper ownership!!!
