A "sports car" is a 2 seater open top car intended for sporting purposes.Example:RT-10,SRT-10,Miata,Lotus Elan........I have owned 1 sports car and it was a Healy.A "GT" is a hard top sports car.Example Viper GTS,Datsun 240Z(I had one of these),Bricklin(Yep that one too),Lotus europa.....A 2 door 4 seat or 4 door 4 seat is a SEDAN.However some 2 door 4 seaters are referred to as coupe.Let the whining begin!Mustangs,Camaros, bmw's.etc are mostly sedans or in some cases GT's.As far as the P car goes I've always liked it but it is merely a VW on steroids.Got it?Good keep it straight.I'll be checking. So a Porsche 911 is a "sedan" or VW on steroids? Not likely, it is a GT even though you can fit kids in back.

Like it or not, Bruce is right..if you want to be really technical. Webster's dictionary (I got bored and looked this up one day) defines a sportscar as a 2 seater only. I dont remember reading it has to be an open top though. But through marketing and sporty styling of other cars, the term sportscar has evolved into the cars we commonly refer to as sportscars

Great, now why you don't move this to the "Driven" section?

Your defenition of a sports car is wack, you are defining the def for a "Roadster" and a two seater "Coup". According to your def, my 2+2 Stealth, the Nissan 300ZX, the Trans AM are not sportscars, even though they are classified as sportscar coups by the rest of the world.

Dictionary.com says the def of a sports car is:
"A small low car with a high-powered engine; usually seats two persons"
Usually, not exclusively.
Since the Viper is not small, it doesn't fall in this catagory then.

"GT" is short for gran turismo or grand touring, and the GTS is not a touring vehicle and doesn't fall under this catagory.

Def of Roadster according to Dictionary.com:
1. An open automobile having a single seat in the front for two or three people and a rumble seat or luggage compartment in the back.
2. A horse for riding on a road.

So the Miata is not considered a sportscar, rather it's a roadster or a horse.
