What would you pay for a 90k mile \'99 ACR?

I kind of stumbled upon a silver and blue ACR that will be going up for sale soon. The car has 90k miles, although the engine was rebuilt about 15k miles ago by the owner( a master tech from the Navy and old time hot rodder- so he says he knows what he was doing). It needs a few things like a new clutch, tires and work on the cooling fan electricals. Overall condition is pretty good from first blush, but I will check it out much closer if the value is there.

Hmmmmmmmm, that many miles really hurt its resale value a lot. I'd say somewhere in the low to mid 40's for that depending on overall condition. You'd pay mid 50's for a low milage one.

High mileage and some pretty expensize issues...and thats just what you know about. Not sure I'd fool with it or not. Low low $40's if you decide too

All i know is i cant sell mine, not with only 11K miles :)

He is looking for $32K for it. I'm not sure if I want to hassle with the potential issues though. If I decide against it, I will pass along his info in case anybody wants it as a track car.

90k miles thats a $hitLoad, I think 32k is about right, I saw a silver 98 go for $29k with 32k miles on it at the beginning of the winter. $32k for a non issues one, that is. This one has issues.

Good luck who ever touches this one. But I think I'd pass on a home rebuilt viper, let something that important stick with the pros.

One of the rare times I agree with you, lol. When I first read the post and started
seeing replies saying mid 40's I was  . I would find it hard to pay in
the 20's for this car, and thats lowwwwwwwwwwww 20's at that.

Don't worry, it happens to the best of us, no one will fault you. Just don't make it a reoccuring activity.

Leslie,

I dont know, a 90k mile track car? I'd rather not have a worn out car as my track car, since the track is place I truly take a cars abilities (and/or mine to the limit) rather not have a home built motor propelling me at 150mph+ around a track or a tired suspension. But thats just my 2 cents. IF your going to gutt a car and do a full track prep on it, including all new shocks bushings, ball joints, etc, then maybe that could work. Just sounds like a lotta money to be dumping in a car thats seen a pretty long service life.

Again good luck to anyone who buys this car for anything more then the late $20's. Might have a few suprises that require more then the purchase price of the car, so keep some spare cash around. :2tu:

exactly the idea. I basically did the same thing with my Z06 and it's pretty much a dedicated track car

Might have to check that car out, am looking for a Viper for the track

I'd pay $32K after I checked the car out. I have a silver/blue NON-ACR. I have a lot less miles but an ACR is much more collectible than mine will be even with lesser miles.

I agree, low 30's, if that. That is a LOT of miles. Most people want them with under 10k.

"90k miles thats a $hitLoad"

I can't believe you said that brother. The guy obviously likes to drive and actually enjoy his viper. I respect that a lot more than some Queen, hunkered down in a garage someplace, like a little [*****] that's afraid to come out and rack up a few miles.

Jon, btw....how u been? Say hi to your dad for me.

Hey Mike,

Good to hear from you. You are right man, I said that knowing I am one of the guys who LOVES to rack up miles. Put it this way, its winter in chicago, and I still was able to get 6k miles on the viper in 6 months of ownership, thats not bad. During 2007 im going to try to pull off a solid 20k.

Something about a guy doing his own viper engine rebuild, just didnt sit well with me.

I will def. tell pops you said hi !!

Hope all is well, and I still love that 02 ACR u own !!

Re: What would you pay for a 90k mile \'99 ACR?

Father was ex-Navy MEO when he stripped his 1965 Sunbeam Tiger in 2000. stripped the 260ci V8 (!) block and found nothing, not even the rings had deteriorated (might have replaced them on the previous strip 20 years before tho!). did put 289 headers on it and a 4 barrel card, but no problems with the original block, pistons etc . . . other parts on the car needed a little attention: upgraded springs and shocks, repaint, etc but nothing mind blowing. a monster viper block in stock de-tune would surely be good for hundreds of thousands of miles?! how much would a basic strip and standard old for new parts replacements cost?

Hmm i wouldn't even pay 32 for a viper with that many miles and a bad clutch and electrical issues.
MAYBE 30 but more like high 20's.

Re: What would you pay for a 90k mile \'99 ACR?

Applause, applause to someone that has that many miles. I'm sure his smile shows it.

I bought my '94 in fall '98 with a then un-godly 20,000 miles. The same chatter of not paying a decent price for anything over 10,000 miles was pretty much the same as today. Thanks to price depression folklore, I bought low and have enjoyed using it, as now I have ~86,000 miles. I'd hate to buy something with few miles and maintain the "1/1 diecast in my garage." (Love that description.)

If Vipers were true exotics and parts were impossible to replace, there might be an argument. But for the most things, it is fairly reasonable to maintain. Geez, the clutch, tires and fan can be completely replaced for $2000? And then they are better than a 10,000 mile car.

I hope you find out enough about it to get comfy with what you would fix, and then buy it. And drive it another 90,000 miles.

Cody,

I have not received a PM from you, but did get your e-mail. I will take a closer look at the car tomorrow, and send off some pictures for you.

FYI...Naplesmotorsports has a '99 Silver with blue stripes ACR. It has 10.5k miles and has the snake 550 package done by Fitzgerald motorpsorts. They have it listed on their website for $59k, but I have seen it one EBAY lately for $57k. Go to http://www.naplesmotorsports.com/inventory.htm to see it.

What does the Snake 550 package consist of? And does anybody know of another one on the road to compare to?
